This is sort of off topic, doesn't involve chestnuts but does involve squirrels.
I was sitting in the yard watching my chickens last month, I was right next to my old cedar tree.
Well a squirrel runs down the tree with a tiny baby squirrel in its mouth, it was about a foot from where I was sitting.
It ran down the tree and across the yard and over the fence into my neighbor's yard.
I lost track of where it was going but I am assuming it was moving to another tree or didn't want to leave the baby there while it searched for food because I was sitting so close by or maybe there was something wrong with the baby?
I don't know but there is so many squirrels in my yard that they are starting to annoy me.
I use to think they were cute but now I have nibble marks on my squash and I think its them.

Those "darling" little squirrels like a varied diet, we came home one time to discover a bunch of them hanging upside down and every direction imaginable picking off the ripe cherries.. aaaaarrrrrr.
They also will eat tomatoes in a dry season, for the liquid I guess. :barnie

has anyone tried to grow these from a nut?
I have, many times and i actually got a few to grow. Usually when buying chestnut you'll find some that are starting to send out a little tiny shoot at the base, thats how i got mine to grow.

Have you guys ever seen a cross between a chimpmunk and a squirrel.
I saw them at a campground once and the park rangers told me they called them chirrels. I guess you could also call them Squipmunks
Whatever they are they were the cutest things.
