WHOOOHOOO!! My bush beans came up!!!!

We're going to give red kidney, black, and pinto beans a shot this year. Anyone have any advice on growing these sucessfully in a wetter, cooler climate? I'll admit to not knowing too much about them (well, except eating them!) :hide

Any ideas on roughly how many pounds per plant(s) can be produced? We'd like to dry some for use next winter in soup and chili. :)

Well, let's see if I have any math skills this morning . . . always seriously questionable .

If you planted the way Texas A&M suggests (24" between rows/3 plants/row foot) you've got your 3 plants/square foot. (Purdue also recommends that for snapbeans.)

43560 square feet = 1 acre

130,680 plants/acre

Yield, say, 2,000 pounds/acre.

.015 pounds/plant, or 100 plants yields 1.5 pounds pinto beans

Oh my gosh! That's a lot of plants for 1.5 pounds of beans! How can growers possibly make any money on them? :hu
