We're having Kid#1 and his girlfriends family here for Thanksgiving (girlfriend too) as well as kid#2 DH and me. So I'm cooking the turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, and sweet potatoes.

My sweet husband implored me not to experiment. :D Looking at me warily he asked what I was making.
Please peel the potatoes before you mash them he said. :rolleyes:I agreed looking back at him innocently.

Sheesh, the man has lost his zest for adventure I guess.

It's a secret but I'm making that cornbread rhubarb dressing that @digitS showed us.
Shhhhh.......
;)

Are any of you making something new tomorrow?

I'm making my sweet potatoes differently this year. Going to make twice-baked sweet potatoes with bacon and goat cheese. In our family we love goat cheese and who doesn't like bacon? ;) One of my daughter's is bringing gluten free stuffing and the other one is making some type of brussels sprouts salad. My chef son will help make the turkey.

Going to make 2 pumpkin pies today with gluten free pie crust, which is a pain to roll out. Wish I didn't have too. Thought of just getting macaroons for my celiac daughter but decided to be nice instead and make pie she can eat. :)

Going to my sisters in Conroe, about an hour away. Taking sweet potato casserole made with purple sweet potatoes and orange sweet potatoes. I just went to store and got an orange to zest and section to toss in the mix, along with pecans, cinnamon, honey, mace and cloves. Will top it with the marshmallows. Sis is doing the turkey and cornbread dressing. SIL is bringing her famous pies.

Next year, we will have Thanksgiving at our new place. My Mom won't be able to make the trip back down here, it would be too hard on her. So it will just be us, daughter, her husband, their girls and friends who don't have family near-we'll invite them too.

Going to Connecticut to my sister's house, 2 hours away. Well, if the impending blizzard doesn't stop us. Going to have to buy a turkey just in case.

there will be one change, we are just roasting 1 bird in the oven this year instead of getting up at 3 am to load up the smoker..
other than that it's going to be another lip smacking loosen the belt dinner..

DH was just diagnosed with a thyroid problem and going for further tests on Monday. So there will be some MAJOR changes in the menu. I will fix turkey for us. (Skinless chicken breast for him) No dairy so pumpkin pie is out, I will make cherry. No mashed potatoes so sweet are on the menu. Fresh green beans no casserole. Lots of fresh vegetables. Hey, we will all eat healthier!

I've been making pumpkin pie with different winter squash than pumpkin the past couple of years. We've tried butternut, peanut pumpkin, buttercup squash and the jumbo pink bananas (aka. candyroasters around here), with the latter being the favorite. I made one for the church Thanksgiving supper last Sunday and only went home with one piece left...unheard of, because usually there are WAY too many desserts to choose from. What I did differently this time was to toss a few marshmallows on top the last few minutes to let them melt, and sprinkled some chopped pecans and drizzled with a little caramel syrup, top with whipped cream. Making pumpkin pie look prettier goes a long way toward making it more appetizing, I think!

So, Mary, are those sweet potatoes baked and restuffed the same way you do regular potatoes? They sound really good!
Yes, add cooked chopped bacon, goat cheese, couple tbs. of heavy cream and maple syrup, salt, and pepper to mashed up cooked potatoes.

Everyone coming to my house. I've been made to promise that nothing on the table used to have a name... (what they don't know about all the broth used won't hurt them - hehehe)
A couple of days ago I saw a thing where you pour some apple juice in the turkey, add bacon and roast breast down for the first 45mins-1hr. Then roll it over and finish. Sounded good... but I haven't decided if I'm brave enough to try it.
