@digitS' Now that I can access the link I unfortunately cannot afford to pay the steep fee for access to the full paper so I can see what nonsense they got up to!
I'd be considering it a safe bet they tested cultivars grown for commercial production which have been bred for anything but taste. Genetics is the issue there which Carol Deppe touches on in her books for any of you that own them. I know of plenty of home garden cultivars grown in green houses that taste fantastic.
I don't buy tomatoes for a reason, even the organic ones because they still grow the same tasteless cultivars.

I tried an unsuccessful workaround.

One researcher has been working with greenhouse lighting for a few years. Apparently, they were trying to determine if UV would boost certain nutrients. That was not the case. However, they did learn that people liked the flavor of the tomatoes better. I suppose that information has some value.

One comment by a reader had to do with no heirlooms on the "list." That suggests that there were several varieties in the study. Yes, they would have to use the same plants in different settings to test a limited number of variables. There was a picture in one article showing a single greenhouse with interior screens.
