A lot of times you can find self-employed people who work by themselves and do great work. I find they are usually cheaper. Perhaps because they don't have many overhead costs. Try to find a referral through friends and then check out the reviews. I've never been disappointed going this route.

Bob will your homeowners insurance cover new window?
I will be getting more quotes and I HOPE that they supply me with all of specifics of materials, etc. . Yes, years ago I have replaced window glass myself, so doing it myself is no biggie . The window glass that was shot out is dual pane. The least expensive replacement dual pane glass only with no tint, etc. is $260 . This is below the insurance deductible. The other side of the window is the sliding glass window and has the tinting, and the argon gas which means that the solid part/ portion window will cost much more ($289, but if I install it myself it is NOT waranteed / guaranteed.
No questions on who is shooting at BobM

Neighbor?

Drive by?

mine wasn't the only one with windows being shot out. My next door neighbor as well as 3 others in the neighborhood have theirs' shot out too. Police officer said that kids joyriding have been quite busy that night. :rant

Last Sunday evening about 11 PM , we heard a crash coming from our office. Someone shot a BB through our 4' x 5' window. :barnie I called our local Police early Monday morning, so they sent a female police officer who arrived at 8 PM to take a report and take a picture of the damage . I then called Home Depot who have a window sale promotion to get a price quote. They sent out a HD sales representative on 2 PM Tues. afternoon. After he measured the window and took out several brochures to make his presentations ... . he finally entered numbers , etc. into his laptop, then entered the current promotion discounts and he then turned the screen toward me and said that this was the lowest price that he has seen for that type of window. What was this majic number, you ask ... drum roll... $ 1,183.06 :th. So... Renewal by Anderson windows has been advertising their fantastic sale for windows for several days now . I called them and they sent out their representative out this morning. He too did his measuring, presentation then his majic laptop and came up with his discounted sale price and how would I like to pay for it. So, what is this fantastic price you ask? Sit down... $4730.67  :th:thWhat is intersting beyond the OVERBLOWN PRICE is the fact that neither one would give me a paper quote as what materials will be installed, the cost of labor, taxes or when the window installation was to occur. What they did was send an e-mail to me listing ONLY the total price. Now what is scary at best other than the prices ... how do I know what materials , etc. am I actually getting installed for those $$$s :drool vs what I was presented at the sales pitch ? :he Shady business practices !!! :caf
How about calling a glazier for them to replace the glass? There are some very inexpensive replacement window companies where they insert a window into your old frame. No big name companies will be cheap as they spend all of the money on advertising.. The big companies may have better insulating qualities but that's a lot of energy cost savings to even break even. If you not matching other windows this may be the way to go.

Just a regular bedroom window? Why don't you just go buy one and put it up? Those prices sound horribly inflated.
I have priced a same size window with the tinting and argon gas but builder grade ( lowest quality ) at 3 different window companies ... all over $600 plus tax. I asked my insurance rep who said that they will NOT pay for the window unless it is professionally installed. So the Insurance company will pay for a way overpriced window with installation prices but NOT for the price of the window and me installing it myself reason being that I may not install it properly. That is the reasoning that my insurance premiums are so high. :he

When we got damage to our house, the insurance company wrote us a check. We did the work ourselves and used the rest of the money for other upgrades. Our house was paid for. Before that, they had to see the contractor bill, blah, blah, blah.....

We always submitted 3 estimates to our insurance. Of course, they would chose the lowest one. But they would write us a check also and we did the work. We always made money on it.
