Winter Reading

Ever been reading a book, just waiting for it to get better...and you really WANT it to get better so you keep reading? But, alas, that's the whole hook of the book....it just carries you along on the hope that the main characters will actually develop into someone you could admire, or at least grow in character in some way.

At some point you realize you've traversed half of the book and have gone too far to turn back now but, though you've made this mistake before, you journey onward clear to the bitter end. Hope springs eternal, I guess.

I hate those kinds of books. You'd think I'd learn to just put it down and reach for another and sometimes I do, but sometimes I keep hoping and reading.

If I realize I don't really care how a book is going to end, I don't finish it. I just close it up and forget about it. Some are not worth my time.

Years ago everybody was raving about the book Celestine Prophecy. It was all people would talk about. A friend gave me a copy, 3 times I started reading it and stopped, I found it boring big time. I think it is the only book I never finished reading.

Bee, 30 Shades of Grey did that for me. I actually read the book for my BFF1. She wanted to know if it was as good as her sister (BFF2) claimed. I could have/should have stopped at page 122, but I persevered to the end, disliking myself for not tossing the book with each page.

Refused to touch the second in the series. Just not for me. The books that I didn't want to finish have been few and far between. North Dallas 40 was one I tossed early on.
