At 15/`16 years of age, I was mentored by a German Master Craftsman Taskmaster. So, I have remodeled 3 of my own homes as well as built 4 of my own homes from the first dot on the blueprint to the complete product. The ones that I have built from start to finish, all feature passive solar / energy efficienacy, living comfort, task lighting and daily working chore efficiency, built my own kitchen/ bathroom cabinetry, and structural soundness that exceeds all minimum building codes.

I also don't know enough to comment about furniture making.
I know some carpentry from being around carpenters on the job site for years & helping occasionally....& doing all carpentry work at home. I am one of those people who will not hire someone to come do work at my house, the only thing I would have to call out for would be electrical. With the exception of putting in new light fixtures, ceiling fans, & easy stuff like that, electrical is too scary for me to mess with.

Sort of the same here, bobm, except Spouse drew up the blueprints for this house as well. We did everything, electrical, heating, plumbing, brick, etc. Spouse did hire plastering done. He'd done it so many times as a youngster that he hated the job.

While we laid the foundation for the fireplaces from the basement up, we did have someone finish the work above the fireboxes. Then Spouse bricked the facia walls.

Not as much passive solar as I had wanted because we built in the woods, but 6-inch walls (for insulation) well before they were the norm and triple-glazed windows specially built for the deeper walls. Also have overhang that allows winter sun into the rooms but keeps out the summer sun.

We also got a permit to make alcohol as I'd intended we heat with ethanol rather than fuel oil, but geothermal system overrides that heat source.
