My tractor guy is finally feeling well enough to mow so he came over yesterday to mow our roadside. Just in the nick of time too, the knapweed buds were swelling and everything was about 5 ' high. But the wild grasses had time to go to seed, so I'm hoping they will eventually overtake the knapweed out there.

I also had him mow a brushy area behind the dog run so now I can organize all of my "valuable" odds and ends of building/fixit materials where the neighbors don't have to look at it when the drive by on the road. Your welcome, neighbors! :)

But the best part is my new plan to expand the garden area. It was my husbands idea actually. He always has the better ideas, darn him.

So, instead of clearing more trees and brush I'm putting it up front where I already have about a 400 square foot garden. I won't be able to see it from the house, but I guess I can deal with that. The new ground will more than double what I already have up front, so next year my garden won't just be POTATOES! And it will be valuable also for rotating that space hog.

Yeah, I'm really looking forward to putting in melons, pumpkins, corn and lots of other stuff that got squeezed out of the picture this year.
The soil is mostly horrible up there but I can work on that.

Oh yeah, the point is that my tractor guy will till all of that area for me with the tractor. That will save a lot of time with my little tiller.
I'm waiting for the utility locators to come mark where everything is buried, then we'll get going! Super excited!!

Sounds like the neighbors are going to think that hillbilly is geting city-fied. I'm not moving my pile of goodies! :rant

Wow! Another 400 square feet or so. That'll give you twice the area I have and yeah, I don't grow melons, pumpkins, or many things that run much, just sweet potatoes in one area and some winter squash in the corn. Room is too valuable.

As far north as you are, get with Digits on varieties of melons and such. You're going to have fun.
