:welcome from a former resident of Midlands SC (Saluda county). Piedmont, where you are living, is colder and more mountainous the the rest of SC. Unfortunately, when I lived in Fountain Inn, I wasn't able to even have a garden.
I recently moved back to my hometown of Kansas City MO, so I can work on planting the things I grew up with.
Pull up a comfy chair and start reading!!

So, how the establishment of your garden plot going? Get it all cleared yet and applied the hay? :pop
See? See? SEE! I havent even cracked my seed coating yet. And you're already rushing me!
I bet when you plant corn, you're out there next morning, looking for sprouts!
I just started in "me and my garden". All my stumbles and fumbles will be documented there. So, join me if you dare. I promise some stuff to fall asleep to, when you just can't fall asleep.

Hey, it's either me or Seedcorn who will bug you, so buckle down. I'm an old woman, so I don't have time to dawdle. ;) Life is shorter for us oldsters. :gig

I'm in Laurens county, about half way between Saluda & Ftn Inn and this IS my hometown. But the vast majority of my adulthood was in Columbia, where it's so sandy you could hear the water whistle as it ran through the ground.

Course I don't know how old you are (and a gentleman never asks) but keep in mind that President Harry Truman could have kissed ME as a baby! :thumbsup And all I've GOT is time. All the time left in my world. I don't rush anything any more. That's just rushing til I DON'T have time. I used to take life one day at a time. Now I try to live it one MINUTE at a time.

You & I are close to same age.
@Beekissed In fairness, I give all a rough time until asked (or yelled at) not to. Kids (under 40) at my job?, just smile and think old man, we’ll deal with you later...... They take it in manner given.

@Xerocles you can join the Nawth versus the South, started by @seedcorn :old who likes to give us favored (unfrozen) people of the mild climates, a bunch of crap. He recently gained a valuable ally, @MinnesotaGardening and she jumped right in there to defend the honor, ice and snow of the frozen Nawth. I like her style and poor seedcorn really needed a friend! :clap

2 Nawtherners against a dozen pea pickers (both real and adopted) is almost fair odds. Pea pickers really need a few more.....

Oh, I almost know exactly where you are at. Not many roads around that way. I was down on 378 for 10 yrs.
