Garden Addicted
If you could get your garden plowed for free would you? Here's the catch....
It would be done with a draft horse team. My wife competes with Morgan horses (yes the Justin Morgan had a horse descendants) and we have a few on the property. We have a very good friend who lives just down the road who often trail rides with us that has Haflingers. Halflingers are a small draft horse but are VERY strong for their size. They are round, compact and solid muscle. She has a team that she uses to pull carts for the local parades and when friends/family come over, and she uses them to haul lumber I cut for firewood. I run the saw to cut enough for both of us since she hauls it saving me the gas and time. Those horses love to work and she loves giving them an opportunity to live up to their breeding. Any opportunity to have them do what they are bred to do, she does. They always impress me with how strong they are for being the about same height as our Morgans (which are not real tall horses either). Morgans are strong and can pull (my wife does carriage classes in addition to having them under saddle), but those Haflingers are built to pull.
So here's the thing. She found a walk behind plow blade and is having it rebuilt to full working status. Her goal was to work her garden over with it, and offered to do ours in the spring. I thought it was great and mentioned to her half joking that she could make some money using a "green alternative" to plowing the garden. She laughed and said she'd do it for free to help keep her horses in condition. Its a common site to see her driving her team up and down the road pulling something, always changing the weight and distances to keep her team sharp. They are beautiful and a pleasure to see working. I told her to put an ad up at the local feed store and the grocery store, and see if she gets any hits. The plow won't be ready till late this fall/winter but she was serious about the offer to plow for free to help keep them in shape.
So I wondered if you saw the ad would you take offer seriously?
