Well, it could be just the ground was not as good where I planted them or the lady I bought them from gave me red instead of yellow. I guess I will find out this year.

Gardening with Rabbits, I don't know much, but am I right that it sounds like 2 problems?

They might be the wrong variety,
and,
they might be diseased, or maybe just got off to a hard start?

You might want to show them to the person you bought them from, and maybe give them another season, keeping the person you bought them from informed of their progress.

Good plant sales people will replace them with the right variety, especially if you show them the honest mistake.

If they haven't fruited until now, there is always the chance they are the wrong kind!

Neighbor bought 10 concord grape vines. Turned out 2 of them came in green, and ripened green. One day and they gave us the other. They accidentally sent him some white wine grapes. :p

I was also sold seed years ago, that sure didn't grow to be what they were supposed to be. All those purchased from well known seed distributor, so it can happen. :/

She had thinned her plants and advertised them really cheap. When I got there she did not even count them and just gave me a bunch, so I got them really cheap. Something like 2 for $1. Since it was spring and if she had red raspberries, she could have given me red if she had red anywhere close to the yellow, but the fact that they were deformed looking and AFTER I planted them the leaves started dying, I think there was something wrong where I put them. They started out great and had leaves and grew tall and then started getting brown leaves. Either they were not getting enough of something, too much of something? They get more water than the red raspberries, so I wondered about that. When I planted the red raspberries I had a big ditch dug and filled with cow manure and not sure what else, but the dirt looked brown. I dug the ditch for the yellow and used topsoil I had bought and compost. I am starting to think what I had in that ditch was too heavy for the roots, but the fact that they were red is still a puzzle.

I don't know where you are from, but for me in my area raspberries are very tricky. I have to make very specific choices about placement, especially for shade, and had to choose a southern variety. Since your neighbor was able to grow them the variety can be grown in your location, so was there a big differnce in the amount of hot sun the yellow raspberries were getting from the 50 ft away red raspberries or from what they were getting in her yard?

It's possible that they were infected with phytopthera blight. Raspberries need well drained soil, they don't do well in heavy or too wet soil.

As to the fruit it did form being red, I'd say you got a red raspberry instead of a yellow.

If it were me, I'd destroy them and start fresh with nursery stock in a new location.

I am in Idaho and they almost grow like weeds around here. My red ones pop up all over and I have to dig them and put them back in the row.

I think I will pull them up because there really is not enough room where I put them. If the new shoots coming up look healthy I might put some in the front yard out of the way to see what happens. I have so many red ones that I really am not sure I want more raspberries anyway, but the yellow ones look so tasty.
