So what kind do u like? Looked at one site, had an interesting polish yellow watermelon.... Kind of interested since wife has polish back ground.
So, this is what it takes?

@seedcorn aren't you the one who insists that a tomato be round and red? Now, a watermelon that isn't "watermelon red?" It boggles the mind!

o_O I've got no experience with them. I'm on the outside looking in ... my DW says if I grow yellow watermelon, I'll have to eat them by myself. Tempting ...

She bought one by accident at the farmers' market last year. Before I had finished it all by myself (small melon), she decided she could try a bite. She had the darnedest look on her face both before and after. It was like she thought it would taste like a lemon and when it didn't, that just confused her.

I don't know if I'm any closer to having a go with them or not. Notice the early, early days-to-maturity! I could be a melon growing winner!

Bay, this state is so big I think of you living in 'the East' and me living in 'the West'! Of course, the West begins at the 100th meridian, which is a stone's throw over the hill from me. So technically, I live in the Western most part of the East. In my mind, though, I live in 'the South' and everything an hour above me is 'the North'!

I've grown the red Moon & Stars. It's a great little watermelon on taste and beauty! This year I grew Hopi Yellow, but it got beaten up by the storm so I have no report on how it tastes.

Funny how small a distance it can take, to hear that change in people's accents. Just two hours north, people get a little St Louis nasal twang, and one half hour south I can hear a southern drawl. Here, we speak totally normal. ;)

Can't help ya'll with geography I have to live on a state shaped like a mitten. Makes it easier to find when I get lost....

The farmers market we frequent yellow doll was a popular variety for sellers. We never bought so can't comment on taste but seemed to be a hit for what it's worth.
