i wasn't living/gardening here back then but i do recall it being dry.
the interesting thing recently here in the middle of this drought for our particular plot of land is that the rains have fallen to the east, to the west and to the south of us, but only a few very isolated sprinkles have fallen on us. the totals below are not for us either. we've had less than two inches of rain for at least the past four weeks if not longer (i haven't been writing things down) and it has been a lot warmer than normal. the few sprinkles we had yesterday were trace amounts that barely made it at all.
"The situation is even worse in the Saginaw area, which is received less than half of the normal rainfall for this time of the year. The area received only 5.78 inches of rainfall since Jan. 1, which is down 7.47 inches from the average on this date of 13.25 inches.
The Flint area was only about 3 inches below normal on snowfall last winter while the Saginaw area was 16.7 inches below normal."
chances of rain again in the forecast for this afternoon, but only scattered like the forecast for the past week. all of that rain is going around us. i need a direct hit.
we get a break in the heat starting in a few days, even some chance for upper 70sF. not today, i gotta get out and water the bean sprouts and seeds that were planted and then get the north garden planted before it gets too hot out again. at least i have a chance of getting these last two gardens planted today, tomorrow and Sunday.
later edit, watching the radar now, maybe a storm from the north is strong enough to get here. we'll see... when it comes into the valley the key is that it has to be strong enough to not fade out. often they fade.

Area of severe drought extends to much of Mid-Michigan
The Lower Peninsula last saw this much of a severe drought 18 years ago in 2003.
