N.O. marks hottest June on record

New Orleans just endured its hottest June on record.
The average temperature was 85.1 degrees, according to the National Weather Service office in Slidell. The previous record, 85 degrees, was set in 2011.
New Orleans, along with the rest of southeast Louisiana, experienced a heat wave that tied or set five daily heat records over about two weeks last month. The consistently hot days increased the daily average temperature for the month, meteorologist Hannah Lisney said.
The official weather monitoring station for New Orleans is in Kenner, at Louis Armstrong International Airport, where records have been kept since 1946.
Here are the five hottest Junes on record in New Orleans, based on the highest average temperature from the National Weather Service:
1. 2022: 85.1
2. 2011: 85.0
3. 2016: 84.2
4. 2019: 84.1
5. 2010: 84.0
New Orleans broke or tied the record five times in June for the hottest daily temperature. The records, from the National Weather
Service, are:
■ June 16: Tied record of 97 degrees
■ June 18: Set record of 97; previous record was 96
■ June 22: Tied record of 96 degrees
■ June 23: Tied record of 99 degrees
■ June 25: Tied record of 97 degrees
