There are icicles everywhere! The snow is starting to melt though. Temp is 35F now and no more wind - and what a relief that is. We were in the single digits!

the power company has been keeping up with the outages so not too many people are without power this evening. i certainly would not want to be without power with these winds and this temperature but if it happens we'll be ok. the power has flickered a few times today but not ever stayed off.

i hope everyone out there is doing ok and keeping warm and having safe journeys if you are on the road or in the air.

Merry Christmas! It was not Icestorm 96 in my neighborhood. Local power is apparently reporting no, repeat NO outages!

The "rain" seemed to be only sleet and that meant ice came off DD's car windows looking like wafers of styrofoam by the time she was ready to head home from her Christmas Eve visit. The precip must have frozen several feet above the landscape and there doesn't seem to be the sheet of ice covering absolutely everything just a crumbly crust. 23°f (-5C) -- It was 10 below 3 days ago at this time!

the roads weren't great but we made it both ways without trouble. i just took my time and puttered along. the snow plows hadn't been out much so in many places the road was ice so there was no rush possible in those places anyways. other parts were more clear and i could get up to 40-45mph.

this morning we took another way home (more roundabout) via more highways and that was more cleared off but the last 10 miles were still mostly ice. putt... putt...

they still have us down for 47F on Thursday and 50F Friday so we'll see if that happens or not.

Probably half of the snow is gone out of the yard. There was a little rain and wind but it was mostly temperatures above freezing over most or all of the hours of the last few days.

There is some more snow being added right now but it doesn't look to amount to much. Temperatures are trending down.

It's been something of a relief because of the condition of the road. Arterials have mostly been in good shape but the road in front of the house was a mess and still is to a lesser degree. The snow plows have been making little improvement although I can hope that they will show up today and that should finally clear the center.

Passes over the mountains received the rain as snow. Melting has occurred but travel has been seriously on and off, almost by the hour. Some serious wrecks have occurred. Mountain snow pack looks like it has remained good, as monitored by the government. Rivers and streams are up from the lower elevation melting.

this morning the temperature has been going down from 56F but it sure is a change from what we'd been having. rain has melted most of the snow. looks like the forecast is mostly above freezing for the next week except for a few nights near freezing. otherwise mid 30s to mid 50s F.

i sure hope these numbers keep the way they've been going recently. well needed moisture for California (and it doesn't hurt that some of it also makes it over to the Rockies)...
