Santa put a fancy rain gage in my Christmas stocking, and it looks like I will be able to put it to good use since we have rain in the forecast for at least the next 10 days. It has been an incredibly wet autumn, and now a very soggy holiday season too. Our area got 500mm(about 20") of rain in October, 296mm(almost 12") of rain in November, and now we're closing in on 300mm(another foot!) of rain for December. It is so grey and dark, but mild. Some parts of Vancouver broke temperature records on December 22nd, hitting 15C(59F). Not even a hint of frost in the long term forecast either; the lowest night time temperature in the weeks ahead will be 5C(40F). There are still Siracha peppers ripening on the plants in my high tunnel; so bizarre. This wet pattern is wearing out its welcome though. I sure hope the sun makes an extended appearance in January.

40,000 without Power in Oregon after overnight storm. Trees down and branches littering and pastures. A mess to clean up today .

I got a storm December 23 at 8:00 PM through Christmas Eve morning. Power was off all night. Got 3 1/2” of rain.

It’s storming again. Looks like it will be over soon for me. Storm is moving east, tornado warnings, it’s moving over Houston, going over to beat up Louisiana.

that may be tough on the people in the low country but for those further inland who really need that snow pack moisture it is a welcome time of the year.

i'm usually keeping an eye on the southwest, west, and Rocky Mountain snowpack levels and now i've added the Utah area too because i am interested in the Great Salt Lake situation. and then there's Mono Lake and Owens Lake and The Salton Sea and ... it' all so interesting to me and i never have enough time to really dig into it all as much as i'd like.

in the meantime do you need a Rubber Duckie?

We just might have @baymule 's total of 3 ½" on December 23rd for our December monthly total!

And, those 3½" would be quite.a.bit.more than the average precipitation for December, 2⅓".

It rained yesterday. By the time it quit, I had already come in and wasn’t going back out, just before dark. Tornadoes in Houston and to the northeast of Houston.
