January 4th, 48⁰ North latitude, hunkering down at 2,000 feet between a range of the Rocky Mountains ...
I'll bet it's beautiful there (sigh). When DW & I first got married, we lived in the Puget Sound. Spectacular scenery, between the ocean & mountains (but poor gardening weather). Now I have good soil, and better weather, but the land around here is flat unless I drive an hour away. Tradeoffs.

At least there is a big lake nearby, and I get to walk on water every winter. :weee With the current cold snap thickening the ice, the tent city should be appearing soon.

We actually got snow here.

Some of us just do not believe the scares they put out on the news because once out of ten it happens. The rest is BS

It's 1c here with wind 8km and a 100 percent humidity.

This was last night

It's 36⁰f (2⁰C) with a 5m/h breeze (9k/h) :), raining and Steve is dumbfounded because it is the 5th of January!

Yes @Zeedman , it is like I have been carted 300 miles away (483 km) and to sea level. Or, I'm back near the border Oregon and California hunkering down between the Cascades and the Coast Range 🥴. That would be a drive to the SW of 12 hours. We would fairly often make it through Winter in the Rogue Valley without snow.

Our tad bit of snow has all been rained away. I will be very interested in what the reports are from our local mountains after this little storm passes. (That will include those of a metric nature in British Columbia)

Just looking at some climate information.

First, I wanted to compare St Louis and Kansas City predictions ...

It looks like Kansas City may be having record snowfall today. I wonder where else ...

Oh, and our snow pack is greatest, right along the US Canadian border in this neck of the woods. Of good benefit to the Columbia, I imagine.

It's been raining again this morning. Last night the rain was heavy clearing away the snow. During this afternoon as i went to leave the dog for a run it was pouring

Currently it's 3c with humidity being 86 wind at 24km

It's stopped raining for now and it's a little brighter but according too the forecast we will have more rain and snow during the night

Perhaps I shouldn't have been dumbfounded. Using the handy WS climatology tool, I looked back at the January 5th minimum temperatures for the 56 years I have mostly been here. There were 6 other times that it did not freeze on that day.

So, 7 out of 56 years ... 7/56 = .125 or th of the days. And, 4 of those days did happen during the last 10 years.

It's an even match with the 7 times it has been below zero on those 56 days. Of course, 0 doesn't mean much since Fahrenheit screwed up measuring the temperature of the freezing point of ocean water. We should cut him some slack because he was trying to have an idea when temperatures might cause the harbor in his town to freeze over. Important concern
