We use a submersible tank deicer in the water for the horses. I can’t carry water out to the barn or keep enough for them during the day . A float for stock tanks works like a toilet float , keeps the water flowing which keep the water tank full. I keep a pipe warming wrap on the metal hose and plugged in so the hose doesn’t freeze up. No fun out in the freezing cold thawing out hoses blocked with ice. The submersible ice tank deicer works great. It keeps the water above freezing and safe for the horses and other farm stock. Also one in the pond. If there is a slight frozen layer of ice on top the horses just break thru it. I keep them in the barn and cover them with their horse blankets/coats and barn doors closed to protect against the wind.
Food available at all times light hay is a good way to help keep them warm. As they eat you can watch the steam rolling off their entire bodies. If ya ever get snowed in , then just saddle up a horse sitting on them will keep you nice and toasty in my humble experience.

I will report back on whether my "keep the water as low as -20 degrees F" heated hose really will.
Can't complain TOO much, however bc this heated hose works most winter days and saves me a great deal of trouble getting water to the ponies.
Tomorrow morning's low is -5 degrees F. 🥶
MY opinions on the weather cannot be written in polite society, 🤬
