I understand that the British Isles are surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, @Marie2020 . Probably the areas of Seattle and Vancouver have a similar climate. Still, they aren't as far north as your home and neighbors.

London itself is at 51⁰30' North latitude. That is not only further north than the city of Vancouver, it is further north than Vancouver Island on one ocean and Prince Edward Island on the other. With the December Solstice, sunrise was after 8AM and sunset was before 4PM for your neighbors there.

It's was really dark here at 5pm.
I have to make sure my dog has got out in good time. It gets surprisingly dark very quickly here.

we had previously arranged to go out today with some friends for lunch and were going to meet them. 11F and blowing with a wind chill only down to -4F. yeah, i'd have rather stayed home and done lunch some other day, but we're on more of a schedule lately than i like so i go with that flow and not my own...

when we got home i just decided to keep my coat, sweatshirt, hat and scarf on just to see how warm it feels. not bad.
