@Shades-of-Oregon , I understand weaning OFF of medications. Heck, I never even used to take aspirin or Advil for ANY pain, and I have a terrible gag reflex.
Here's the deal: My surgeon looked at x-rays of both knees back in September, noting that they were mirror images of each other and asked which knee I wanted to have the surgery on.
Since they want you to have help at home I opted to wait until the summer for the 2nd surgery, instead of commit my youngest DD to ANOTHER 2 months of extra work feeding horses. In the summer they are on pasture and even DH can fill grain bowls and kick them under the fence and make sure to keep the water tank full, ALL without assistance. He isn't physically able to handle winter care.
I STILL have a crooked left leg and often very painful left knee joint.
So...where is the argument to wean me off of medication for my left knee?
My right leg gives me only moderate muscle pain when I over exert, something that I can handle.
Don't misunderstand--I am Very Grateful for my October surgery.
I guess I will make an appointment with my NEW Geriatric dr--at this Clinic they move on very quickly, and DH went through a series of them, meeting each once before a replacement came along.
I don't want to muck up my July surgery.
I have been "allergic" to doctors for a LONG time.
They always send out surveys asking me about service. I will stop answering them. I don't think that they would listen to my suggestions, if they don't listen to my comments in emails.
I asked in my inner portal email if there was anything else I should do.
NOBODY said, we would like to see you in person before prescribing anything else, and it was THEIR idea that constant aspirin and Advil use was not good for me. They both Still work better than the tramadol, but sometimes the tramadol works the best for the left knee joint pain.
I don't care that other people are playing games bc they want drugs.
I hope after recovering from the 2nd surgery to NOT be on any drugs.
This starts year 5 of my knee pain, only it's for only the left knee joint, which really is shot.
I need to spend the next 3 weeks exercising and getting ready for the physical therapy scheduled pre op for my knee, and which starts on April 1st.
Their comments also go into my record.
I will probably look for more over the counter remedies bc I don't have to ask anybody's permission to buy/use them. :barnie

It is another sunny day here and we should have go above 50°f (10°C) again ... for a few more days ...

I was just commenting on @akroberts 's Organic Garden thread about the weather with -1f and 18" of snow at this time in 2019.

@ducks4you , neither DW nor I are supposed to have NSAID drugs. I am very reluctant to use any opioids, as well. I'm surprised that Tylenol helps with joint pain. Over - Activity brings it to a higher level but the acetaminophen helps with that. Mayo Clinic puts it in just the right way ;): "Over-the-counter pain medications, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol, others), ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) or naproxen sodium (Aleve) can help relieve occasional pain triggered by activity your muscles and joints aren't used to — such as gardening after a winter indoors." finding an effective minimal dose is very important with all of those.

so far i feel lucky that the worst of my aches and pains tend to be taken care of my 400mg of Ibuprofen right before bed (with a snack if my stomach has been upset). and i'm also very glad that i don't need it more than a few times a year.

in the past i was bad enough off that i was considering surgery.

so no, i'm not shovelling today.

i did go out and do it anyways while i had some other task in progress that needed a 15 minute wait. just wanted to make sure the driveway was melted clear enough before the washing machine repair person shows up. and now it is all cleared up and safe. :)

I have found that a really hot shower and ice hot works for pain. Then my daughter gave me some lidocaine patches and WOW, what a difference. I take ibuprofen as needed or if I have a headache then I take Excedrin. Opioids I refuse to take and even though I am not allergic to it I always list it in my records as an allergy. If my headache gets to bad I lay down on the floor, put a pillow under my head and 2 pillows under my knees, then I put a cold washcloth on my eyes. It works wonders.

Oh yes.

I use a salicylate cream or oil at times.

Still, I'm concerned how much aspirin type chemical is coming through the skin and do not use it frequently. Salonpas patch is not a bad choice. Putting the patch or oil/cream on my forehead (and closing my eyes 😚) helps with headaches, which are nearly always of the sinus type.

We had a lovely few days of sunshine but as saying goes, all good things comes to an end eventually

It 6.30pm here. The forecast said we are due rain at 8.30 pm. But it's been on and off rain since since 2.30 this afternoon And it's been raining a lot more since 5pm.

It's 86 humidity, according to this forecast and 9c, soon to drop to 8 then 7c

But I'll lay bets the humidity is higher than the forecast said.
