zucchini got teeth!

I have seen pumpkins do that now and then. Never seen a zucchini do it though.

It looked like a fungus to me. Corn is famous for its variety of fungi -- supposed to be tasty AND expensive. I've never seen fungus on zucchini 'till now.

Of course I rather like the alien suggestion.

It's not a virus or fungus. It has something to do with the development of the flower and the seed formation. What you are seeing is seeds outside the fruit itself. You can sometimes catch a pumpkin flower with "seeds" in it. I may have a pic of one somewhere. When you see it, you might as well cull the flower as it will abort on a giant pumpkin.
