    Winter Splendor!

I used to pick chickweed for my budgies. I never thought about picking it for myself. I’m going to have to look at it differently next spring when it grows again.

The Many Benefits Of the Birch Tree

Yes! I loved the white paper birch trees we had in Michigan. My favorite tree. But they don’t grow so well down here in Indiana. So we planted River birch, which is very popular here. (Too popular- I cringe at all the subdivisions where every house has a young river birch planted right up...

    In Memory of Trip

:hugs Things usually work out the way they were meant to. Maybe moving to the new farm would have been too stressful for Trip in his condition. Maybe he was better off not going through a second transition that he didn’t understand and the “Person in Charge” knew that and arranged things to...

    Alert on posts

I don’t remember which sister site it was on, but I have seen posts that had a time stamp that had not come yet. I think it was a few hours in advance. It was puzzling, and I figured it must have been a glitch. You are saying the alerts button does this first thing every morning for you...

    Orange recipes?

Can you make orange marmalade without any peel in it? I have read that you need the peel for the pectin or it won’t set. I suppose without peel, it would just be orange jelly. But I have not yet found a recipe for that.

    Elderberries

I think you are right. Yes! I was expecting to have to beat the birds to them when they were ripe enough to pick, but you hit the nail on the head. They are untouched by the birds. That is an excellent idea. These don’t seem to have the little brown dots on the blossom ends like those...

    Elderberries

So @baymule , I have what I always thought was an American Elderberry. (Bought from Master Gardener plant sale 10 years ago.) This is the first year it has produced berries, and I kept waiting for them to turn purple. But they are heavy and ripe now, and they are red! I tried to look up red...

    Sweet Wild Syringa

I wish @thistlebloom would come back. I miss reading about Syringa. She left around the same time as @majorcatfish and I wonder if they both left for the same reasons. 🙇‍♀️

    Baymule’s 2021 Garden

That’s not so dumb! If you want to start out with dry bread so it will stand up to the process of making dressing, drying it in the oven is a good idea. Growing up, my parents always used broken up pieces of dried white bread for Thanksgiving stuffing. They set the bread out on cookie trays a...

    Elderberries

Well thank you for the idea! My 10 year old elderberry tree is fruiting for the first time this year, and my plan was to get up on a ladder and pick the individual berries. Now I see that I should clip the whole stems with clusters off, and de-berry them with wire. You all have just saved me a...

Hello, Wyndsong, welcome! We are talking about you over on BYH. (About how some of us have stalked @baymule and learned a lot from her.) She writes great posts. Since it looks like you are a member on all 4 sites, I will tag you over there so you can join in. There is a member there named...

    Baymule’s 2021 Garden

Thanks, I will tell him. What I’m not planning to tell him is that I have been feeding the crows on purpose! 5 crows started showing up late last summer, and I think it was because the neighbor had put in this new corn patch. Well, crows won’t allow hawks near their nesting area, so I was very...
