    A Seed Saver's Garden

Not really, but I have never really TRIED seriously. I've only made attempts twice before. The first was when I was a kid and poured a package of Forbidden Rice (a black short grain kind with a seriously high anthocyanin count, originally reserved for the Chinese emperor), into a flowerpot and...

    Somehow, It's Funny that Way

I think it was urban slang, like calling them "clams" or paper money "lettuce"

Only bit of news is that, the night before last, I was picking over my container of African rice (Oryza glabberina) and noticed there are actually two kinds in there, short grain (most) and long grain (a few). I pulled them apart and, for a while thought the stuff might have gotten...

    Somehow, It's Funny that Way

Something like this actually occurred in real life. A home appliances company did an advertisement offering air conditioners for "199 bananas" (assuming people would understand the slang for "dollars"). But a lot of people showed up with 199 ACTUAL bananas, and, when they turned those people...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Well I can think of a few. For one, the cleaned seed takes up less space (since all of the dross is gone) Second, cleaning allows you to check that no OTHER seeds have gotten mixed in (like weeds). And third while it is possible for the vegetable matter to turn into mulch, it is equally...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

The forecast today threatened frost tonight, so I brought everything in. That actually included the mung bean with the super size pod, I dug it up as best as I could, added it to the wild pot, and watered it in. Hopefully, that will get it to keep going (or failing that, make it last long...

Reminds me of a residency complex I see when I go to the Flushing Chinatown called Bland Housing.

More winding down. I pulled all of the common beans plants yesterday. In theory, they MIGHT have made some more seeds, but, given how many leaves they had lost, the odds were that all pods would abort before maturity, so it was better to take them down now. Took down most of the mung plants...

    Garden humor thread..

Some modified Nursery Rhymes Mary had a little lamb, I was cute as a button. But Mary slaughtered it quite young, Cause she did not like mutton. Mary had a little ewe Half Texel, half Merino, She milked it and she made some cheese, Since she like Pecorino Mary had an adult sheep, She...

This must be a really old one, since it must pre-date the finalization of Sally's design (specifically, her love of and constant wearing of white shoes.)

You'd probably love conehead thyme as well (Cordiothymus/Thymus capitatus ) a.k.a Hyssop Thyme* as well, since that is another super powerful one (it's so strong it verges on painful, especially the flowers). But that is DEFINITELY not winter hardy for you (since it isn't for me) and sort of...

Lets see Chinese mint- Mentha haplocalyx Syrian Oregano - Origanum maru (at least, that's the one I have. Some people say true Syrian is Origanum syriaticum, and maru is a cross between that and standard oregano). Cat Thyme - Teucrium maru Southwestern Oregano - Polominthia longiflora...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

Good news bits and bad news bits. 1. The last cucumber did give me a decent number of mature seeds).....I THINK. I say "I think" becuase I'm unsure if a lot of the seeds from this one (or the last one, for that matter) actually ARE good. They'd didn't dry down to absolutely nothing like the...

    Coffee

There is one fun one I have found that isn't hyper expensive. I've made it, and the tea really is pinkish lavender (while still tasting like normal tea). https://svtea.com/products/zi-ya-purple-bud-tea-or-call-it-purple-bud-zi-ya-tea?_pos=1&_psq=purple&_ss=e&_v=1.0

Envelopes are not a problem; I can get all of the coin envelopes (which are pretty much seed packets anyway) from any Staples. As for upright, that's sort of what I am doing as well, thought I am using an empty plastic soup container (fewer packets). I also have the option of using little...

    A Seed Saver's Garden

We have reached what I would think of as a "lingering" period in the gardens. Everything's MOSTLY over, but some plants are still trying to eke out a little more before giving up the ghost. The problem with this is it sort of puts a pause on some of the finishing up for some things. For...

    Coffee

My personal opinion is that pretty much all addictions in life are based on a single nearly universal addiction; addiction to pleasure. And that one is SO universal that our society doesn't just normalize it, in ENCORAGES it, and, nowadays makes its pursuit the more or less end all be all of...

    Coffee

I've been here, I've just been on other threads (like the gardening ones). Plus, there hasn't been much to say. The fine tea supply at my usual site has been sort of meagre (whether due to the economic mess in China, or people snapping it up before I see it, I do not know). I suppose I WILL...

2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

I've a few that are even smaller than that, but yeah, below that, you sort of reach the size where the utility of growing them becomes questionable. On the flip side, I have seen some sort of Azuki that made seeds the size of pinto beans (I just wish I remembered where.)
