One suggestion would be to have the date and time at the top of each post. It would then be obvious how current the post is versus having to scroll down to the end of the post to see how current the response is. Hope that makes sense.
Two new things for me this year are Minnesota Midget Mellons and sweet potatoes. I may try the mellons in a straw bale with some type of trellis or pole. Any suggestions are sure welcome.
Nyboy, have considered getting a root stock from your local nursery and maybe try grafting from her trees. You get an edible fruit and it would still be a tree from her orchard. Just a thought.
Bok Choy was maybe my best wonderful surprise. Yep, the same pests like it as cabbage and brussel sprouts but it grows so fast that it can be done with little effort. We love stir fry and just happened on a you tube video of a garlic recipe for baby bok choy/pac choy and it just looked so...
BLT's are just sooooo good. No other sandwich can compare to a garden freshly picked tomato. We had that tonight with nice big slices of Rutgers on toasted white bread. Oh, good grief these are so good!!!!
Did several pounds of tomatoes for the freezer until we get enough to make sauce to can. Maybe 40's nice tomatoes that filled two gallon freezer bags. Grilled burgers and dogs for our annual church picnic around noon and then headed to the garden. Clean out one of the 4 x 8 beds and put in...
so lucky, this was a first big success for me on the onions. They send several e-mails as reminders for taking care of the onions. The only thing I did different from their planting suggestions was I used 10-10-10 fertilizer instead of ordering theirs. I don't recall a single onion not...
I got the mix of yellow, white, and red in the intermediate day zone. You can order them now and they will send them when it's time to plant next spring. My soil is a pretty good loose mix with lots of compost in raised beds. Softball size was pretty average.
We got onion sets this year from Dixondale Farms, and they produced massive amounts of huge onions. I have never seen anything like it. They know onions and know which ones to plant in your area and give simple planting instructions. Highly recommend checking out their site.
oh, thanks Ridgerunner. That is very helpful. My bad for probably not reading it correctly. I will be doing that to make some sauces in the next few weeks. Thanks again!
dewdropsinwv, thanks for that information as I was going to ask about freezing them and then can them when I have enough ripe at one time. Have you done them that way? Didn't sound like Ridgerunner was a fan of doing it that way but I don't have enough ripe at one time to process much. I have...
Wooo MontyJ, I did the same thing today with the beets. I only pulled enough for 4 pints but filled the water bath with some pickled peppers at the same time. Have a great weekend!!
Steve, these only get 2" - 3" tall and need washed real well and more of the white stalk growth because of the low profile. We grow larger varieties as well but a few hot days and they bolt. The dwarf can start to bolt but not have an impact on the taste/tenderness.
