Home gardens designed like agricultural operations, What?!?!?!

Yes I do. Right now everything is under 4 feet or so of snow. Moving forward I am happy to take pictures.

Home gardens designed like agricultural operations, What?!?!?!

I don't think solar energy makes nutrients. Without looking (currently at work) I'm pretty sure I was commenting on Solar energy making nutrients 'available' which it does in several ways; Carbohydrate interfaces with mycorrhizae fungi in the root zone and the underground economy and by...

My two cents is as diverse a material as you have available. And then grow mulch plants as well. 'Weeds' make great mulch plants, but I like to know a little something about the plant. It might be beneficial. Where in NE are you?

Anybody with advice on vegetation killer?

I actually agree with this. But I think those with perennial production would be sitting in a more comfortable seat than annual gardeners. It is just more stable in my opinion.

Home gardens designed like agricultural operations, What?!?!?!

That is an great technique that everyone should do. In my opinion. Most plants see their first genetic adaptation after three years in any soil as I understand it - Life finds a way.

Home gardens designed like agricultural operations, What?!?!?!

"IF you only harvested your garden every 20-30 years, would you garden?" That has nothing to do with what I'm talking about and it fails to the reality that you harvest based off of availability of crop, no matter what the system. A lot of over story trees produce yearly A lot of under story...

The original topic is found at http://www.theeasygarden.com/threads/anybody-with-advice-on-vegetation-killer.16593/page-4 Yes I am aware of farming practices. But I don't need to be; gardening like a farmer a waste of time, money, and effort. "Do you understand the differences between...

Yes I am aware of farming practices. But I don't need to be; gardening like a farmer a waste of time, money, and effort. "Do you understand the differences between minimum till, no-till, cover crops, strip till etc?" Why yes I do thanks. "Not trying to be difficult but the general public...

Anybody with advice on vegetation killer?

I'll do a more formal write up on the differences between gardeners and farmers moving forward but I simply don't have the time right now. I will say that mulching isn't something a farmer can do in modern industrial agriculture so it makes sense that from an agricultural perspective they would...

Anybody with advice on vegetation killer?

It seems strange to disc a plant that can regrow from root cutting doesn't it when that plant is tap rooted? I would say another on a list of 'strange' agricultural practices. Just because something is tradition and you believe it to be true, doesn't mean it is a good idea. I get the process of...

Hey that's pretty cool! Do you have any carpentry skills? The first thing that comes to mind is to build a vertical garden out of the existing wine barrels. That way you can utilize the space on the sides of the barrel as well as the top. You could do this with felt/plastic wall planters or by...

Yeah I prefer the old varieties and tend toward old old trees. I'm not a fan of uncertainty and so I stick with the standards and heirlooms. Also I attempt to propagate my successful plants. I am not that great at it lol. So that brings the cost down considerably. On a large scale the idea of...

Anybody with advice on vegetation killer?

If by crabgrass you mean 'Digitaria' I've never seen a problem with just sheet mulching it away. Really it is easy. I have a question though. Are you planting anything after you mulch? If you don't take away the niche of a plant in the area, than that plant will always return. Running a disc...

Also check out James Prigioni's crazy cool natural garden lol https://www.youtube.com/user/ThePermaculturGarden He is an excellent natural gardener. I think a mix between the twenty thousand schools of gardening is a good idea. :)
