I like the way you guys think! I'm pretty sure I will be the only one traipsing out to the garden to pick the goodies, so I shouldn't feel guilty. At least not much. :drool
Me too, Baymule! I guess I figure if I look at them enough they will suddenly grow like Jack's beanstalks!
Ugh! I've done that before, Honeycomb. It's like we want to
get them in at the earliest possible second so we can harvest as early as possible and Mother Nature wants to remind us to be...
Just beautiful! Makes me want to hike around on our property and take some wildflower pics. Not willing to brave the rattlesnakes right now though. The lilacs remind me of my grandmother. She had some beautiful ones in her yard, too. Thanks for sharing!
Thistlebloom, I'm so glad your iris are doing well! Looking forward to seeing pics!
Katie, mine are almost all neglected as well. The one that's blooming happens to be right by the house, but all the others are growing on a steep bank behind the house in nasty soil. They get watered...
Thanks for the info, Steve. Haven't even researched the Oregon Spring yet. Just wanted to try something different. If they are a good sauce tom then I should definitely get a few more.
Baymule, why does it have to take so darn long to go from blossoms to ripe deliciousness?
Me too, Smart! As long as I don't kill them we will find out eventually!
Baymule, I'm not sure if there would ever be enough to pick for dessert. I can just see myself out there every morning stuffing all the red ones in my face. . . Did I mention I love strawberries?
I know what you mean, Baymule. No chance of getting lettuce and tomatoes at the same time here either.
The new bed of lettuce wasn't even close to bolting - just three inches or so. We were taking care of our neighbors place for the past week and I tried her lettuce. It was already bitter...
Of course we planted some early girl, big beef, sun gold and celebrity, but we found a couple of interesting sounding types at the nursery that we decided to try: Oregon Spring and . . .uh oh, the plant marker is gone! Well I guess we will have a mystery tomato! Now we just need to find some...
The other day a lady came into the little library up here in the hills where my daughter works and gave her a big box of strawberry plants that she had thinned out of her patch. Since my daughter lives in an apartment in town she gave them to me and even helped me plant them! We have no idea...
I have been harvesting lettuce from volunteers that came up from last years crop, but I also planted a large bed of mixed lettuce earlier in the spring. Wouldn't you know, before we could even eat one single leaf of the beautiful baby greens they all went bitter and I had to tear the whole bed...
Things are finally starting to bloom around here. The spirea was started from a stick 3 years ago and the iris is one of many my in laws have given me. The others aren't blooming yet.
No, it doesn't sound like you inherited that trait at all! I mean, what's wrong with stripping tiny leaves off of tiny baby plant just so you can stick them in a fish? It makes total sense to torture them like that! I'm sure they will come out of the shock eventually. Teehee!
That looks really pretty, Mary. Glad it finally decided to take off for you. We have a huge pot of spearmint and love making mint tea all summer. We will have to try your recipe when all of the fruits start ripening around here. Sounds delicious!
