We love them peeled, sliced, and marinated in vinegar cut with a little water and some salt and sugar added (to taste). Also good to add some sliced purple onion. Yummy!
We have 2 4X8 beds that had cooler weather crops in them - peas, etc. What can we plant/start right now that will do ok in the heat of summer? Our growing season will last until at least the end of October.
So true, Stubborn!
Hoodat, those coyotes are pretty interesting. We used to have one that followed my daughter up to the bus stop every morning, sat and watched her until the bus came, then wandered off once the bus got there. it never got very close to her and was definitely not aggressive...
Well, so far nothing is fitting completely. I think I may just resort to hitting those vines with neem and cutting back on the watering and see what happens. If nothing else we can mow them down in the fall and start over.
Well, they sure were easy - just some cattle panesl. This pic was taken about a month ago. The beans are much bigger now, as well as everything else. I noticed lots of little blooms this morning. We are in the beginning of a heat wave that is supposed to last about 2 weeks, so hope it...
Everybody's harvests look so beautiful and delicious! We have just started getting summer squash, but nothing else yet. Lots of tomatoes set, though, so soon. . .
I don't understand rain in the summer. It makes no sense at all. Rain is for winter and spring. Can't wrap my brain around...
Here's a pic of our pole bean arch. We have planted on both sides, with a few cucumbers on one of the sides. It is attached to the outside of the beds on both sides.
Journey, I haven't found any evidence of borers, but I will look again. Could have missed the signs.
Marshall, BJ, and Catjac, they shouldn't be lacking water as I deep water them every few days, which is when the first couple inches of ground are completely dry. We gave them each a good dose...
Yuck! The sound of traffic makes me crazy, Chickie! All we hear are nature sounds, but occasionally we hear a loud truck or a plane or something. Nothing like in town, though. Sometimes I go sit outside and just listen to the birds and the breeze rustling the oaks and pines. Of course, I...
These are Heritage Raspberries and Black Satin Blackberries. We put 2 in last year and 2 in this year. They have started looking really ugly and all of the little berries on them have dried up and died. I searched the internet and studied pictures, but I can't seem to figure out what's going...
Well, harvesting the bush beans would have been much easier that way, Steve! As opposed to crawling around among the plants every few days. We definitely have enough time in our growing season to plant more beans, but we aren't set up for a separate area this year.
Well, that's good news. We will give it a try and hope for the best. I'm definitely one of those people who fits the description, "the best laid plans of mice and men. . ." :P
