I TOO had an ornamental one product a HUGE tuber and was told you can eat them but they do not taste good. I'd just save them and replant to have your ornamental vine again next year.
OMG it looks SO cuddly. That orange dahlia is absolutely gorgeous. I am going to have to think if I have a big enough spot anywhere to put 20 more dahlia tubers. LOL And I too am one of those asking for gardening stuff (could care less about clothes, etc.) I am going to tell a few of my...
Catjac you make me want to go over and get some silkies from the neighbors and let them roam in my veggie garden (wish it was fenced in so I could but my dogs would get them). I HATE SQUASH BORERS!
I dig up my elephant ears and lay them on papers til they die back, then but the dead off and just store the bulbs. I've always been told to keep a few inches of the stem on dahlia and if tubers fall off they won't grow but not sure, I have no 45 degree place to store anything so I put things...
Well these are ornamental, someone said you can eat them but they don't taste good. I did get a box of sweet potatoes from my pot of slips from a tater sprouting on my counter that I planted earlier this year but these ornamental vines for my flower beds are easy to start from a cutting, stick...
Are any of you going to make any food gifts for Christmas presents. I always do baskets for my bosses of some of my canned things (Salsa, pickles, etc.) but was trying to come up with some new things to add in.
I pulled this puny tater from my purple ornamental vine that was in a pot and thought, hmm, probably won't make it through winter but I'll keep it. I remembered the green potato vine that was in another pot (taken a month or so ago) that was taking over
I went to pull this one out and about...
Great harvest. This year I had a sweet potato growing in the kitchen so I buried half of it in the dirt and start breaking off the vines when they got about 6-8 inches long. I ended up with 6 or 7 to plant. I never grew them before so I took a big tub (some kind of protein powder comes in them...
Journey you made me laugh out loud talking about a dusty house, I'm doomed right with you! Guess I need to get to cleaning this weekend. But I figured I had Halloween decorations up (cobwebs). LOL
Holy Cow, I looked up sun spider, that made me shutter!
Well I guess I'll just keep them in a box in the corner of my bedroom (I keep the blackout drapes closed all the time since I'm only in there at night and its the coolest room of the house for some reason) and hopefully they'll keep
I also appreciate the advice, I got a nice little box of sweet potatoes from the tub I planted so I put them on the racks in the greenhouse for a few weeks and brought them in last night since we're to get to freezing. I just hope I can keep them from starting to grow. I have no basement...
Ahh to have fresh farm raised beef and chicken (although I sure don't miss plucking those birds LOL) rather than the crap in the grocery store. I went out and stripped all my tomato vines in prep for the freeze tonight, got about a bushel, and got another big huge bowl of peppers so soon I'll...
Congratulations Vfem, that is truly an accomplishment and I know you have to be thrilled. Here I have 3 dogs and I look out back the other night and there sat a cat at the edge of the garden and a BIG ole rabbit IN the garden. Dogs were banked up in bed. LOL I've still got tomatoes, peppers...
No deals like that for us, they had one pallet of small bags of manure/compost and sold out before the season even got started. I do have a question though. They talk about all the antibiotics/steroids they give animals and about eating the meat making us antibiotic resistant. I have to...
I agree, your time is worth more than $1 a jar. We are to have a frost/freeze come Monday morning, not sure what I'm going to do with all the peppers out there. Guess I need to come up with something that I will actually use. They are all mild peppers. Any ideas?
