On the other hand, don't grow so much that you can't take care of it. In order to get lots of produce you have to do lots of work or have lots of kids who like to do lots of work.
If this is virgin ground you might want to get a soil test, though it's getting a little late in the season to get it back in time to tell you what you need....but anyway, virgin soil....your biggest problems are going to be whether you have enough nutrients in the soil and WEEDS. You might...
You mean just to keep track of what you got and don't got? Yes, I keep a spreadsheet but then, I'm the goddess of spreadsheets. I section it off into categories-tomatoes, peppers, melons, etc..... and I put in a column for how many packages or even how many seeds and then I have a different...
Are you kidding me? I'll have so many pics you people will hate me! There's actually getting to be quite a few Perch/Friesian crosses in the sporthorse world right now. That heavier bone and longer legs really work fantastically for jumping, hunting and dressage. Me, I just LOVE a draft.
Greg came home early from work tonight and tilled up the garden area again so I guess we're hoping that even though it's supposed to rain and be chilly this weekend we'll plant some garden. I'm going to start hardening my tomatoes next week.
I've tried for three years to grow rhubarb here and it's not working.
We have Percherons.....well, actually the mare is Percheron and she got tangled up with a Belgian and had a pretty black baby boy who is now about 18 hands. This year she's going to have a half Friesian baby.
It's the taste of summer that bites you back. It's tart like cranberries but put it with some sugar and strawberries and it's pure heaven. Rhubarb custard pie, rhubarb bread, rhubarb muffins, rhubarb sauce on ice cream, strawberry rhubarb pie, rhubarb jelly.......those are the things summer...
Rhubarb is BAD, YECH, ICKY POO, GROSS!!!! It actually CAN bite, sting or poison you so just because I want to save you, cause I really like you, I think you should package it up-roots and all and send it farmerlor, middle of nowhere Colorado and I will dispose of it for you.
Read about the Hokaido melons or the yellow and oranges? My favorites are Tendersweet, Moon and Stars and Orangeglo. All heirlooms so you can collect the seeds. Gosh, I'll have to find out if I can collect seeds from the Hokaido! They're growing quite nicely. Think I can get 6000 dollars...
I'm growing Hokaido melons (those black melons that went for 6000 dollars in Japan last year) and I always grow my yellow and orange watermelons which I guess some people think are weird.
Watermelon Pickles
12 cups of watermelon rind, prepared
4 cup cold tap water
3 1/2 T pickling salt
After the picnic gather up all the watermelon rinds. Trim off any of the melon and the outer green rind leaving only the white inner rind. Cut these pieces into one inch squares. Mix up...
I LOVE me a yellow or orange watermelon!!! I've got several varieties that I've started indoors because they take so long to mature. I like watermelon pickles.
Oh, I just love my turkeys. Jefferson is so spoiled he just comes running when I call and wants me to hold him which is fine I guess until he gets to be about 30 pounds....
