A trick to spot eggs is to hold the frame so the sun is over your shoulder, and hold it at an angle so you illuminate the bottom of the cells better. Those little es are tough to see!
We still have no packages yet, they've been delayed now until next weekend. I'll believe it when I see it...
I bought a flat of baby asparagus plants, you know, grown from seed (not a special variety called 'baby'). I want to integrate them into the existing bed in holes left by plants that died out. How deep do you think I should plant them, or how? I was thinking of digging a fairly deep hole and...
There's no problem with them being located in Canada, my mother and I have been ordering from them for years. Their selection is second to none. I paid $18.60 shipping on an order that was around $90 (most of the plants were $4 apiece, with a few at $6).
We need a photo, but it almost sounds like Russian Olive, something the extension service used to promote, but now it's considered an invasive- I still love it, though.
Mine did fine in the corner of my sunny herb garden right out front, and last year was hot and dry. I do water, but it got no special treatment. It actually lived over the winter under the deep snowcover we had, but the spring frosts did it in. Go for it, I don't think you'll regret it...
I just unpacked my Richter's order. I love their packaging, they do such a good job. I bought all sorts of basils:
African Blue
African Spice
Lesbos
Thai
Lots of Sage:
Honey Melon
Pineapple
Peruvian (this is my favorite)
White
Two miniature curryplants (love the smell)
Vietnamese...
No, it wasn't intentional, just another stupid workman who doesn't know a thing about gardening - dangerous things to have around :(. I'm so sorry about your birds. The good thing is that gardens can recover - so dry your tears and go dig your fingers into the dirt, it will make you feel...
I post in 'beds' rather than rows, so I consider spacing on center. Yours may be a bit close, but if your soil is well prepared, I think they'll do fine - plus every seed doesn't germinate. Beans are pretty forgiving :)
Nachoqtpie, you sound like the gardening is in your blood - as it is in mine and so many others here!
For your beans, how close is 'too close'? I plant mine 3" apart around my bean trellis, but I try to keep them 6" on center for bush beans.
They are, but not very long lived. I do know a guy who I used to work with who had a tomato plant that was three years old, he grew it in his cube, which was next to a bank of windows. It was a treat if he gave you a nice, ripe fruit in the middle of January! :drool
First of all, :welcome
You are nowhere near too late to plant everything on your list from seed but tomatoes and green peppers - best to go find some nice transplants. I am familiar with your area, we've got a home up in southwestern Maine. I'm planting potatoes up there this weekend...
I actually love the snow. Really. I enjoy, thoroughly, all of the seasons, spring is my favorite, the deep summer is my least, but they all offer their own bit of life to me, and for that I'm grateful :rainbow-sun
