I am not sure what they are but minemost often have worms in them. I have tried different ones. I decided they take up too much room to have wormy ones. Love them though
I have been doing salsa for years..never took the skins off the peppers. Never had the vinegar (turned) problem. If your tomatoes do not seem to have enough acid you can add lemon juice. Bottled not fresh. Good luck. I put all the veg in a large pan and roast in the oven. Tomatoes, onions...
Mine are growing but our planting time is around May 15th. But we have been having record high temps. It will be interesting to see if it stays above normal. I have had freezes @ the end of May. Lots to think about..Might take a chance on a few things.
I also do tomatoes in the dehydrator. When I do not have fresh tomatoes I rehydrate then in oil and vinegar and use them on salads and things. I refuse to buy winter, store bought tomatoes.:watering
I have found it takes more water in the house than you would think. Also it gets white fuzz on it. I set it in the tub and give it a shower about every other week. Once you set it outside again ( I keep it potted) it soon looks healthier and green again.:tools
No tomatillos next year. They take up space and seem to get wormy. Did not develop this year. All my cole crops were eaten by gophers( I think...underground) Like a Bugs Bunny cartoon. Garden is fenced to keep chickens and two Dachsunds out. Peppers did well, tomatoes not as well. Pink...
I start kale in the greenhouse very early. Love the young tender leaves sauteed with eggs. I dry it and add to soups, casseroles and meatballs and meatloaves. The outer leaves are fed to the chickens all summer long!:bow
Thanks for the update! I run the chickens into the gardens in the fall also. One really produces. Tomatoes will definitely be put back there next year.
I plant Morning Glories. Supposed to not be good for chickens but have been eating the flowers for years. Also planted gourds one year. This year Cathedral Bells. Very pretty
Perseids are our favorite. Usually view it from a boat. Our joke was my husband never saw them. Every time we ooohed and ahhhed he looked too late! Thanks for the reminder!
I would never consider making veg, beef or chicken soup without a rutabaga! They just need that extra boost from the "baggy" as my Mom would say. They are great to grow on "new" ground. The flavor gets better if they get a bit of frost in the fall.
Might be too late for some but somewhere I read to plant Tansy with your vine crops. I started the Tansy in March of this year. I planted 2 with every vine I planted (grew the vining plants myself) so far (knock on wood) everything looks good. The Tansy is about a foot tall. I`m hopeful!:fl
