O.K.! Now I get it about no reply to the Huckleberry question. They are gross! They look like a blueberry, kinda cook like a blueberry but YUCK! I made them into pancakes. One bite tells the story, they stay very firm. My dog picked around the H`berries and then the chickens picked around them...
I love them! There is also a green variety. I planted one by the compost and it grew about 7 feet tall. I use the large leaves to cast cement birdbaths. Thanks for the pics.:happy_flower

Garden Girl...Tell me about your Huckleberries!!! I received some free seeds and they are growing great. Even asked about them on the forum with no responces. What I do know is they have to fully ripen and have to be cooked. Any input would be appreciated!!:happy_flower
Keep watering them and they will produce in the fall. Even though our first frosts are in early Sept. we often can still pick them around Thanksgiving. They can take the cold. They are even better after a frost!:happy_flower

I make blackberry freezer jam. Follow the instructions on a Sure-Jell pack. They are pretty seedy though. You could run half of them through a food mill. My favorite jam!!!:tools

2 cups fresh basil leaves (washed-spun dry)
2/3 cup olive oil
1/2 cup pine nuts
1/3 cup parmesan cheese
2 to 4 lg garlic cloves (I like it garlicy) minced with 1/2 teas salt
I throw it all in a food processor or blender. I like mine chunky so do not process too long. ENJOY
