Unfortunately due to health issues I have to decline too, I still plan on putting in a small garden with a few beans, tomatoes and other things but I don't want to take a chance on growing something for you that I can't follow through with, but, if everything goes alright I may be able to send you one or two you don't have.
I will be following this thread with great interest and join in with anything beany from time to time.

@saritabee i'm looking forwards to seeing how these go. reserved fence space for some selections of pole beans.

@Ridgerunner the moving will take a lot of work, but in the end it's looking good and working out quickly. i have a southern friend who grows beans through the winter so perhaps that will work out for you later in the season when the heat starts to fade...

@HmooseK Still waiting for Ralph's to get here, sometime it takes awhile, pony express? hopefully sometime this week. I'll do a seed side by side picture of it next to Ralph's Italian and post it here then a quick germination test, if viable will send half of what I have down to you, keep your fingers crossed. Between the two of us we might be able to bring this one back.
On the other front my source for Piekny Jas finally got one or two to germinate so should have a few of those soon. Being they were bought in bulk it will probably take a year or two of seed selection to get them back up to the size they should be..

@rdback did you try a germination test on your Ralph's Italian? I still have some, maybe give them one more try in the greenhouse.

Part of my problem is that some years it does not even freeze, tomatoes or peppers can live trough the winter an produce the next year. But most years we get a freeze in the 20's and occasionally a really hard freeze that can burst water pipes. You just never know what it will be or when. I'm not going to risk any of Russ's beans if I don't have confidence I can get a harvest, though I might risk some of mine since I have plenty of seeds. Right now I'm planning on a fall garden of green leafy veggies this fall and get ready for next year as far as beans and anything else.

Those drainage issues could take a while to resolve too. Too much concrete and they did not slope things well. I'm going to take enough time to get things right before i start the garden beds.

certainly, drainage is one major issue here that i wish they'd done right from the start, it would have saved hundreds of hours of extra work and many headaches and expenses later working around things already in place...

if you are bringing in a lot of clean fill and creating banks you may want to put down some good guage heavy wire mesh so that creatures can't use it as a den making target. spending a lot of time dealing with them trapping, hunting, plugging up holes... just makes it so much easier if you do it right from the start.

i have other "experiences/wisdom" from over the years dealing with this place but we should start another thread for that? i'm a bit tired now, but a good topic under landscaping/hardscaping/drainage/big picture and how to maintain to avoid further problems... tonight. nap == now. cheers...

@HmooseK Ralph's arrived in the mail this afternoon, no need to compare as they don't look anything like Ralph's Italian. Did the Ralph's you had look like this?

Schoko Flecken, Schone von Frau Weitzl, and Slut all the seed has been sent out back in December on those three.

Aha, so that's why they weren't on the list!
In place of those three, I'll do Harriet's Black Hook, Rwanda Rainbow, and Small Speckled Bunch.
