I thought this was interesting @Bluejay77. This is the network Tremonto di Trebua pole bean. The stems of every plant are reddish, except one, which is typical green. I don't know if this is just the variation that is possible within this variety, or if it might be a sign of some crossing?

Could be a sign of some crossing. I don't remember the plants really well. I've only grown it once. Will be interesting to see what the seed looks like.

will finish up planting the North Garden this morning and then have to get some other plants in the ground before the heat gets here for most of this week, then tomorrow i hope to get back to planting beans inside the fenced gardens and then after that i'll be able to finish up the last bulk bean garden planting outside the fence. so maybe by the end of this weekend or a bit into next week. depends upon how much this heat and how the rains/storms go.

the other day i had a very aggressive ground bee after me when i was trying to get plants in the ground inside the fence and had to abandon that garden for the day so i switched over to prepping and planting beans in the North Garden instead.

Mom is my hero, the next day when she went out to work in the fenced gardens the bee attacked her and she managed to swat it into her weed bucket and cut it into pieces and then later in the day when she came in another one fell out of her overshirt that she'd managed to get without even knowing it was in there. it did sting her on the back of her neck but those stings aren't nearly as bad as many other bees. for me the biggest trouble with them are when they get between the glasses and the eyes and are stinging.

i'm hoping i'll be able to get things done today without such drama. :)

for yesterday's bulk bean plantings it was mostly Red Ryder selections (including some Matte Red), Conserva, Huey and some Victoria Brown Eyes.

i planted four of Russ's Santa Beans, giving them the abbreviated names for now of RC-SB- 17-M-KL, RC-SB-4-BB-1, RC-SB-7-BB-2, and RC-SB-16-M-OPL.

other beans planted were Temporary-Name-Orange-Red-Half, Anasazi, Yellow Eye ES and then since i have no idea how some of these beans are going to do i scattered some Purple Dove in the rows as backup plants just in case the others don't do much. i hate to waste space so having some mixed plantings is ok with me as long as i remember to check them all to make sure any plants that finish early are not being overgrown by longer season beans. it may end up being a bit of a mess but we'll see how it goes. :)

Sometimes plants that have reversed-color seed coats also have different colored stems. Most cranberry types that I've grown do this from time to time. I'd love to know what causes it.

Dutch Bullet arrived today, @Bluejay77! She sent some very nice quality seed.
Ahhhh Great News ! Now do you have good enough weather to grow those beautiful beans? I know you have had lots of rain in the PNW. My large pole bean plot rotted out again this time from not enough sun and frequent cool rains the last two weeks. I need to get our there today and plant them all again.

Oh no! What a terrible loss.

The forecast looks like we'll be in the 60's all week, so maybe we're past the worst of it although we're a bit hard-pressed for sunshine lately. It also looks like tonight may be the last of the cold nights at 45F (fingers crossed!). The green beans that were started earlier look terrible! I noticed some blossoms yesterday but I've never seen such a pitiful bunch of bean plants before. Even the lettuce is struggling this year.

The other network beans (Swedish Brown and Marfax) were started indoors last week. I didn't want to risk a direct seeding. Hopefully the weather will have settled by the time they are ready to go out.

Still hoping to get a few beans in this year. The weather, and coming down with Covid last week, aren't making that easy. I finally feel well enough to start some things in pots, so that I can hopefully get at least a little seed in the time remaining.
Gee Zeedman, Sorry you don't feel well. Makes it seem almost like a lost season not being able to do much in the garden. Hope you get well very soon.
