2024 Little Easy Bean Network - Growing Heirloom Beans Of Today And Tomorrow

@heirloomgal Blaugraue lived up to it's name when i grew it out. my results were shades of color on the seed coats were from gray to blue. as a pole bean it did ok, but seemed to want a longer season. just by chance i do have it in my box of possible grow outs this year even if it is a pole bean.

I’m excited too, @heirloomgal - I got my package from Guy Dirix today. Sixteen new varieties I chose, plus he threw in 5 more! Now to get them all added to my spreadsheet and decide which beans to grow this year. Such lovely beans!

I thought @Bluejay would like to see this - 32 pint jars of Red Turtle beans, all pressure canned and ready to eat. I snacked on a half jar before I thought to take a picture.

upon a closer look i noticed that the half white very pale beans i had on the left side of the picture i posted here some days ago also had some that were faintly striped yellow.

a new outcross from years ago that didn't show up until i replanted those beans i'd had in my collection just waiting for me to grow them again. i called those beans Half Whites and then lighter tan in that category. i may have sent some to two or three people already so if you do have those and replant them they may have some interesting yellow stripes on them.

are they a relative of Lemon Slice? possibly, or an outcross from my many times of growing various yellow beans, but also many times of growing half white beans of different sorts and also then the many striped beans (Peregion has several, and also quite a few others i've grown over the years).

now i'm curious if i have any of those lighter tan half white beans left that i grew out last year because now that i have them refreshed i can risk the rest of them in another planting this coming season. hmmm...

when i find the sample i have left i'll get some pictures.

Oh Wow ! What a crop you have had of Red Turtle beans. All those jars lined up in the photo look just grand !

Suprise of Surprises. I had gone away Friday for another seed swap in Nobelsville, Indiana and when I got back upon checking the mailbox. I found two packages of beans. One from @heirloomgal and the big shocker was a box that had been opened an resealed with USDA Aphis packaging tape. A box from @Decoy1. I almost fell over when I go it into the house to have a better look at all the labels on the package.

So maybe there is still hope for a package from France to get here. Time will tell.

How do these seed swaps typically work? I've never been to one.
