Some bean mail today from Artorious. So his package went through the USDA inspection routine and was forwarded to me. Artorious thought he didn't even use my return address labele that I sent him last year. So heirloomgals package is I think somewhere. If my chance it got caught in a bin with tons of them stack on top it might be discovered eventually. If it makes it here I will send back the beans that @heirloomgal sent to me recently.

Anyway getting back to the bean mail.

Artorious sent me Grumbliai. I think it is a bush bean. It reminds me sort of, of flowerbugs "Lemon Slice" Also remember that bean that @heirloomgal posted months ago that had the single white stripe coming out of the one side of the eye. When I posted that photo on facebook. Guy Dirix said I know someone who has a bean that has a white stripe like that but it's a different name and color. Guy got some of that bean for me sent it to Artorious and in his package today there was that bean with the white stripe. It must be an outcross because I also got a number of segregations of this bean of different colors.

Traje Rojo - Small Black. These seeds seem a bit more consitently rounder.
I've never seen beans with an upside-down exclamation point before!

So Guy Dirix post this information on facebook about this bean with the upside down exclamation mark.

It is a bush bean from Cusco-Peru , from the gene bank CIAT -Colombia- In 2016.

Lieven Decrick from Pepingen-Belgium- noticed this bizarre bean in the lists of CIAT. He obtained seeds and sent me some to experiment. The beans gave moderate to bad results in Meise-Belgium. They flowered very late and the 20 L.pots were in the autumn placed in the greenhouse.

By seed exchange with Solja Kaltenbach from Bienenbüttel they ended up in Germany. Solja had more success with this bean and the harvest was remarkable. She even made jewels (necklace) from them. In the following years she obtained a black variant and then also several 'segregations'. She sent me all those variants. Solja said, "Perhaps there would be interest from a bean lover", and yes… in 2024 Russ Crow contacted me to swap these with others from his impressive collection.

That's a gorgeous bean. I looked up ortza, and it translates from the Basque as 'rainbow'. Maybe they get lots of rainbows in the village of Elortza?? 🌈

Sure you have! It's common in Spanish script to have an upside down exclamation point or an upside down question mark at the beginning of any sentence that also has it at the end.
