I won't kid myself, it's going to be draining emotionally, but it will also be a good closure for us. I will be able to come home and have spring and summer to look forward to.
And Lesa, I do remember your cherry stepping stone path! I think you need to post some pictures of it again. I hope your chickens haven't done too much damage to your moss. They can do so much destruction in such a short amount of time!
So sorry to hear that the rooster may have to be killed! My eyes are filled with tears! Please give him a chance, Thistleboom! Behavioral problems, as WE see them for a rooster, are not his fault! He is just a rooster. Quoting LZ "Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven. Ooh it makes me wonder..." Capital punishment is not fair for being "belligerent and totally self absorbed."
Masoud
You are right, Masoud, "He is just a rooster." He has already had a longer and better life than most roosters are likely to experience. He is a danger to all the hens as well as his keepers as long as he is belligerent and self-absorbed. That he bless his family with a good dinner is only right. It is but a small step from the rooster to the roaster. Yum!
As the flock rooster he's not fulfilling his job description. It's not capital punishment, it's good animal husbandry.
I don't want to pass his genetics on.
I appreciate how Red put it. He's been well cared for, and treated kindly his entire life.
I will not tolerate one of my animals being abusive to the others.
I'm sorry Masoud, if this offends you.
Love the pics!! I got an "action shot" a few weeks ago of our 3 dogs on leashes trucking down the walking path in front of us...all the leashes are crossed and intertwined, silly pups!
Thanks guys!
Journey, the hens are mostly black laced red Wyandottes, with a blue l/r in there, and the two that Sweet Pea hatched out are Golden Cuckoo Marans. That's what the roo is. Then there's a Golden Sebright, a Dutch Bantam, and my old black Australorp.
I really appreciate the prayers! Thank you.
I've been a little testy lately (y'all probably noticed!) with this hanging over me, and finding out more details of the pillaging and abuse that went on at the hands of our sibling.
