Huh. I always thought crows & ravens were different names for the same animal. What's the difference?
You may only have crows around where you are, curly kate. If you see fullgrown ravens and crows together, you would see the size difference immediately, ravens look huge :)

Ravens have a wooden sounding rapid cluck.

cluck your tongue. That sound. Now do it as fast as you can. Ravens do it 3 or 4 times that fast, about 3 seconds at a time.

Crows don't do that. A Raven's voicebox box sounds like it is made of fine wood.

Ravens will socialize with other large birds, even bald eagles.

Ravens and Crows are not the same species, but they are both members of the same family: Corvidae. Jays, and Magpies are also members of this family.
Ravens tend to be larger, heavier birds with a thicker bill, and when in flight have a diamond shaped tail. Crows are smaller, a slightly smaller build, and have a squared off tail when seen in flight.
Blackbirds are in a completely different family: Icteridae. Orioles also belong to this family. They are much smaller birds than either crows or ravens, and most species we get here in the US have some other coloration besides black.
~~~copy/paste from some website.
To me, crow/raven basically the same thing. I've honestly never stared at a crow/raven in flight just to see what kind of tail it had to properly ID them. Maybe I should, I've got one of them living in a group on my property. Little birds chase them off then crows/ravens chase off hawks.
Blackbirds around here are different in color, size and sheen. Most common are the medium blacks, with a very rich green sheen and brownish head/chest. Some people call them mini-crows.
I don't know if this is a crow or a raven but I like this pic.
When I was a young'un there was a crow that used to pull the wooden clothespins off the clothesline and drop the drying clothing on the ground. My grandma would come out of the kitchen waving a broom to chase it away and then he'd fly up into a nearby tree and sass her. The crow thought it was great fun; grandma didn't enjoy the game though. :D
I have no idea when she was born but I know it was in Yorkshire. My grandpa was German. What is it about the Germans and Brits? In between wars with each other they get married.
