It might be old hat for a lot of you, but we just went to Aldis for the first time. The little town of Livingston where we used to live didn't have one, nor was there one near by. Tyler is the headquarters for Brookshires, and they don't want competition, so for this area, there is Brookshires and Walmart groceries. Whoop-De-Do. :smack

Aldis opened a couple of months ago in Tyler, so we let the "new" wear off. Our DD invited us to go with her, mainly to help with the babies, I think. LOL I had a hard time keeping DH from putting EVERYTHING in the basket. He kept a running conversation of, This is cheap! Wow, we pay twice as much at Brookshires/Walmart! We need to get a bunch of this! Look at these prices! Don'tcha think we oughta get MORE? He was having a large time. I was trying to convince him that the store would still be there and we could always come back and get more when ever we wanted. We bought a bunch of stuff for $56 and couldn't believe the total.

So we might be lagging behind, but we finally made it to Aldis and we WILL go back!

I think there are 2 locations in Davenport. Very near places I often go. Yep good prices. Stock may vary from trip to trip. The fruit quality has always been good, too.

We figure we'll go twice a month. Milk was 94 cents a gallon. :thThe main thing is that there is FINALLY competition in this area!

Wife frequents our Aldi constantly. Some things you will learn to avoid but overall a great place.

I've never been to an Aldis, but I drive by one when I visit the Chinese buffet in Festus.

There is an Aldi's in Cape Girardeau that I have been to a few times. My biggest complaint is that the really good specials are sold out quickly...the crazy good prices on fresh fruit and vegetables. I have heard they have a good section of organic stuff there, as well. For a while, Walmart was matching prices on those specials, if you show the cashier the Aldi's ad, but I don't know if they still are.

Does anyone know how they are able to offer such low prices?
We don't have Aldis here that I'm aware of, but we do have a grocery chain that offers very low prices on many items.
Kid#2 worked there for a couple of years and said a lot of those grocery items are imported from China. Many of them are not labeled (bulk items for instance) and others are obscurely labeled on the actual individual item, but the large cartons that the individual shelf items were packaged in were labeled from China.

That gives me pause. I look at all my grocery labels closely now.

Looking for point of origin is very smart. Buying foreign produce is risky at best-they have no chemical restrictions or standards.

Aldi canned goods are non label. In some things I can tell no difference.
