I am really late too. I just recently built my raised beds and they aren't even filled with soil yet. I plan to just plant warm season crops and then fall crops (if I ever get the beds filled.)
aquarose,
are you located on long island, NY ? because i'm in Queens, NY and think i might be starting late also i'm just sowing warm crops now.
Hi Greenthumb18. Depending on where in Queens you might be in a slightly warmer microclimate than me. (I used to live in Ridgewood, and I had a huge rosemary plant. I can't keep one alive over the winter here in Nassau.) Anyway, I still need to buy dirt and I hate the thought of buying dirt. Oh well.

The only basic problem i have is with the squirrels, they really are pissing me off and making me angry :somad everything i plant they try to ruin it in someway. They are destroying my garden with no hope, if their was only a guaranteed method to get rid of them forever.
Are you having problems with squirrels too aquarose? If they was something i could do, i was getting so excited to start planting now with this i dont think i'm be much excited anymore.

We have lots of squirrels in our yard, too. They mostly mess with stuff I plant in pots. That is really aggravating. Then they come back to steal my tomatoes. They really like tomatoes. I don't know a good way to get rid of them. My neighbor across the street got a permit and shot a lot of them in his yard, but that didn't make much of a dent in the neighborhood population.

I don't have much of a problem with squirrels (yet), except for them planting oak trees all over the place. I hope I don't jinx myself, but they don't bother my bulb flowers or much of anything else. Maybe there are so many oak trees around here that they have plenty of other stuff to eat. Also they feast wherever chicken scratch is spilled.
