UPDATE: Waterless Amayllis is now repotted and living happily by the sink, where I can keep an eye on it. Not the prettiest pot, but it's clay and new and isn't cracked, and has a drainage hole. What more could a waterless amaryllis ask for?!?!?

by the sink you may be tempted to watering it more often, but you can tell from the leaves if you're watering it too much - they'll get yellow on the ends or even get some pale markings in the leaves.
basicallly they are a pretty drought tolerant plant, they can get close to completely dry between waterings, but i try to not let them get that dry. they're pretty forgiving of dry but not as much of too wet. i don't worry about drainage with mine, i just let them go long enough between waterings and they do ok.
mine are still being slow about growing. i only have one tiny shoot off to the side of a larger bulb that is growing (out of 7 larger bulbs). none of the larger bulbs are putting up any leaves or flower stalks yet.
