UPDATE: Waterless Amayllis is now repotted and living happily by the sink, where I can keep an eye on it. Not the prettiest pot, but it's clay and new and isn't cracked, and has a drainage hole. What more could a waterless amaryllis ask for?!?!?

by the sink you may be tempted to watering it more often, but you can tell from the leaves if you're watering it too much - they'll get yellow on the ends or even get some pale markings in the leaves.

basicallly they are a pretty drought tolerant plant, they can get close to completely dry between waterings, but i try to not let them get that dry. they're pretty forgiving of dry but not as much of too wet. i don't worry about drainage with mine, i just let them go long enough between waterings and they do ok.

mine are still being slow about growing. i only have one tiny shoot off to the side of a larger bulb that is growing (out of 7 larger bulbs). none of the larger bulbs are putting up any leaves or flower stalks yet.

zero flower stalks this year, but my main container of five bulbs so far has four growing leaves and my two other containers each have three bulbs putting up some green leaves. so they were not dead, but really delayed at starting to grow leaves this year.

Latest Amaryllis report: Red amaryllis has woken up! And, 1/3 of the Pink amaryllis pups, sprouted and next to the bulb that I gave to DD, has sprouted. I will repot it in it's own pot and repot the other two in a highly humid environment and forget about them for awhile to see if I see any more action. Below, also is the pink amaryllis at DD's office. She moved her plants next to the aisle in the office so that any passers by can stop and be amazed with the flowering!

Repotted the Apple Blossom Pink Amaryllis pup that sprouted into it's own pot. Nice roots and I can keep an eye on it since it's right next to the kitchen sink, along with my Red (??) 2023 Christmas Amaryllis waking up just a little bit more than the last photo. I saw two tiny roots on ONE of the Apple Blossom pups and maybe a teeny tiny root on the other. I have kept both of them in saturated soil, put the pot in a yogurt container with a clear lid that has 3 vents, and I am leaving it on top of the fridge to see if I get some good roots. I will let you know, since the big bulbs are going between $15-$40/online now.

I kicked two small garlic with roots, one VERY small that were growing in this pink pot. The tiny one got trashed, the small one went into the composter bc, who Knows, it might survive!

i restarted mine early this year so last week i did start watering them again. one of the plants was still going dormant but not completely so - it will be interesting to see what any of them think of this new happening. i need to repot them all, but i fear i may not get to it this year and just have to give them a slight boost via liquid fertilizer. if i stand back and aim i can hit them with some fresh stuff...

[pee ess, that was a joke, fertilizing them has usually not been a very good thing at all, at best repotting has done better, but i don't think they much like that either]

This Hippeastrum most known as Amaryllis . The pic is ‘Elvis’ appropriate name for so different and a show stopper.

Amaryllis flowers are all special , they light up our lives and hearts. 🥰 I think there’s nothing better than amaryllis flowers sitting on the inside of a window sill while it’s snowing outside.
