Here is something very typical that everyone contends with, even in Sunday traffic.
Yesterday: I turn onto a one-way street and after traveling one block stopped behind a car waiting at a red light. I'm in the left lane behind a car and there is a car waiting in the right lane. A 4wd pickup pulls up behind me. Newer, it has those rivets in the fenders and a big, black front bumper.
The pickup driver decides he wants to be in the right lane. As the vehicle rolls slowly in that direction, I move the car forward a couple of feet because he has stopped so close behind me. The light changes to green and both vehicles in front of us turn off the street. The pickup is soon a couple of car lengths ahead of me which is a good thing because the interstate onramp is in my lane within 4 blocks from that red light and he intended to take it!
I notice a blue SUV in my rearview mirror, no other cars behind me. It's travelling much faster than my vehicle. That driver moves to the right hand lane and passes me as I notice my speed, 38 in a 30 mph zone.
Suddenly the SUV is in front of me and headed up that onramp! I would guess that he or she handled that maneuver driving about 50mph.
All this happened within 4 blocks from that red light (just checked the map ). The driver of the pickup would have had no idea how fast or slow I would be driving. I had just entered that one-way street as the light turned red. He likely would have had to return to the left lane behind me if the 2 cars in front had remained on that street. I can imagine some level of impatient aggravation, if he had.
That the blue SUV chose to pass me on the right and ride the pickup's back bumper up the onramp must have made both drivers feel like they were in a cavalry charge entering Interstate 90!!
Me ... I was relieved to see them disappear up the ramp as I continued with no other traffic in sight. Windows down and still 8mph over the speed limit, I passed a group of Russian olive trees in full bloom. Their lovely fragrance filled the car for a few blocks as I continued towards my destination.

some people are just in a hurry no matter what.
