I have a trumpet vine. No problems touching the stems, leaves, or flowers. Mowing keeps the thing from spreading and under control.

I have heard of planting autumn clematis with other climbing vines for faster coverage. The clematis grows quickly and is cut back each year to grow again. This fills in all the spaces quickly while the slower growing vine gets started.

Oh thats not good don't want to wait 10 years.
I think they mean after 10 years the root system is hard to kill off and will spread new shoots weekly. In about 2-3 years, they would cover your area. It's not the quick fix an annual would give you.

I know a ever green hedge would be best , but I would need a lot . 6ft ever greens can get expensive when you need many. Red Autumn clematis is one of my favorites, was planning on planting them too. Jarared when I was young and I had a 32 waist I never minded to "put on a show" now at middle age No body wants to see the show lol. Marshall like your suggestion, but she doesn't hide she sits on her porch with binoculars. At least she does to everyone on the street , we all joke about her. I just happen to be the lucky one who is right across from her.

Have to feel sorry for someone with that poor of a life.

For quick fix, go with something like pumpkins, then in fall present her with gift.

Mine have always been slow to take off and bloom. I bought a yellow one that has never thrived or bloomed. It has sent out many root divisions. My 35 year old orange which started as a sprig is like a tree trunk and blooms profusely. However it sends out hundreds of underground root sprouts. If I had to do it over again I don't think I would plant it.

About 20 miles from my house there sits a broken down "big rig" truck cab, which is totally covered in trumpet vines. In the summer, you can barely see the truck under there.

Whatever you decide- you can supplement for a few years with other vines... like morning glories, or even pole beans. I have pole beans along my fence and it doesn't take long for them to completely cover it... and you can have a snack while you soak!

What Lesa said :) .

As far as an evergreen hedge goes arborvitaes aren't my first choice, but you can pick them up pretty cheap at HD in the beginning of the season. At least the HD here runs specials on them every year. I've also seen them at Costco super cheap in the spring.

I wouldn't recommend them if you have a deer population in your neighborhood though, they're crack for deer.
