With those crab apple trees you don't have to worry about pollinators. Some commercial orchards use crab apples to pollinate their trees. That's another reason planting apple seeds from the apples you buy normally don't produce a good apple.

I love crab apple trees first you get early spring red flowers then in fall when all leaves fall off, tree covered in small bright red fruit.

That was the look I was going for down the driveway with Prariefire, but only one out of the 5 I planted grew from the graft. The other 4 were rootstocks that produced a bumper crop last summer of great apples.

The neighbors picked and made pie filling and I made applesauce, and a few pies. I hope they have a crop again this year, but the buds are already swelling and we will undoubtedly get a late hard freeze.

Of course, before I could check the nursery out I had to anticipate Nyboy's fingers dancing around the wrong keys and input Burnt Ridge rather than his suggested Brunt Ridge. It's a teacher thing, I'm sure.

Success!

Thanks, @Nyboy, it looks like a good site.

Red I am lucky enough to say I have had some great teachers in school. Can't tell by my spelling, but I did. I have ordered trees from them in past and was very happy.

All three of my boys were in the gifted and talented program at school. Very sharp boys, all three of them and they had some really good teachers. Let's just say the youngest one's gifts and talents were not in spelling though some of his teachers really tried.

I got Goldrush from Stark Brothers a few years back on dwarf stock. Those apples were really good, but they did not turn as yellow as I expected. More of a green than yellow. I used some mixed with others for apple butter, apple jelly, and apple juice, but the main use for the Goldrush was apple pie filling. I think I've got a quart left. I gave several away and have received compliments on it. I think it is a good choice. Hope it produces for you.

@Ridgerunner and @Nyboy , I've heard it said that you are born being a good speller or you're not. Although you can improve if you work real hard, it just doesn't come naturally.

Spelling has always been an easy thing for me, but my dh, who is worlds smarter than I am, has always had trouble in that area.
