Great thread that I missed the 1st time around. I tried to teach my DIL many things about gardening, cooking and sewing. She never really did. Just wanted it done for her. Always eager to help pick out what she wanted. then sit back and watch DH and myself, plant, water, weed, harvest and preserve. And happily accept any surplus. :( Any clothes need mending, take them to MIl. oh well that is water under the bridge, She and DS are divorcing. :(
Now that DS has the grandson's every other weekend we spend a lot of time at the garden. The boys love it and are really excited about the broccoli or as T calls it *little trees.* Here is a photo from last weekend of my guys in the garden. ;)

Awwww...... @Carol Dee this is what memories are made of. That picture makes me smile at the love depicted in it. Those little boys will always remember helping their grandparents. And you just might make garden converts out of them!

Carol, I wish I had a mother, grandmother, or mil like you. For some reason none of these women knew how to cook, can, sew, etc. My grandmother was from mexico and you would think she would have learned how to do these things. She did garden but it was all flowers. There doesn't seem to be anyone close to me that I can learn from. :( All there is over here, are expensive classes that are over $100 where they teach you how to make jam, raise chickens, etc. :barnie I guess everyone wanys to make a buck. So sad.

All of you on TEG are my inspiration and you don't know who I wish that I could visit all of you to learn from you. :) I dream of tasting fresh chicken that you've processed. I believe Journey once wrote that she cans venison. I wish I knew what that tastes like. Can't imagine what Lesa's canned potatoes taste like, etc. (which there was a dreaming smilie)

Thanks Bay, we sure enjoy having them spend time with us. Papa especially enjoys their help. ;)

Mary, you have done fabulous things all on your own! Your yard looks so pretty and the chickens happy and healthy. I too wish I could visit all my TEG friends in person if for no more than a hug :hugs and to see it all in person.

Even as rural as it is here, we also have folks charging quite a bit for classes like that. It's a shame more people can't or won't take the time to be neighborly like Bay did and just give a couple hours of their day to help someone learn. Other than the ag extension folks, it's hard to find anyone simply sharing knowledge like that.

I agree with Carol, you have done wonderful things with the space you have available to you and we all learn from you as well and I've really enjoyed getting to see your pics too. :)

Bay, don't get too friendly with me because if I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I might just stop by!
