Bay, don't get too friendly with me because if I'm ever in your neck of the woods, I might just stop by!

Hard keeping a dry eye reading this thread!! Carol that is so great your boys get excited over broccoli. Wonder if more kids would eat their vegatables if they helped in growing them?

Nyboy, your great too! To answer your question, yes kids will eat more veggies if they help growing them. My preschoolers are proof of that. They love their veggies. You should see the parents faces when I tell them their child LOVES sugar snap peas and snow peas raw. They have no problem eating kale and swiss chard either.

THEY say a child has to taste new food at least 5 times before they will accept it. My DIL was a vegetarian when she gave birth to my grandchildren. They ate everything veggie and fruit. . . but they disliked the taste of meat. They still eat their veggies, but Maverick isn't fond of potatoes.

Well, today my neighbor lady came over to learn how to make jelly. We made dandelion jelly. I picked dandelion flowers yesterday, pulled the petals, made the infusion, then strained it and put it in the refrigerator.

This morning she and I picked about 250 dandelion flowers and sat on a bench under the crepe myrtle tree, enjoying the breeze and conversation with each other. We picked the petals out and came inside to boil them, strain and make the infusion. I got the jar out of the refrigerator and we got to cookin'.

I showed her how to sterilize the jars, lids, rings and assorted tools for canning. I printed out the dandelion recipe for her and let her follow the directions. In no time at all, the jelly was in the jars and we were waiting for the PING that tells us they were sealed. We got a glass of dandelion/spearmint tea and went outside to let the jars cool. She was thrilled. She got 7 half pint jars.

She has been offering to help me butcher ducks. I invited her over last summer when I butchered a couple of very old laying hens and she watched the process with intense interest. I gave one of the hens to make soup for her family. So I have 5 ducks left to butcher and Thursday is the day. I asked her if she wanted to come help and she's in!

She is excited to come help me butcher the ducks. I told her to wear old clothes. She even told me she dreamed about butchering the ducks. I will make a farm girl out of her yet, right here in practically downtown, Smalltown, USA.

Since she has a burning desire to cut a duck's head off, pick feathers, reach up a duck's butt and drag it's guts out, I will do my best to make her dreams come true. :gig Thursday should be a ton of fun.
