Since we're talking about a supplemental feeding thing, Im guessing that, yes, willow tea would be fine.

I like the aspirin thing because its cheap and I came up in the 60's; you know, Timothy Leary and that whole "better living through chemistry" thing.

Of course, I was done with that about 10 years ago.

This is what I read in my gardening book about it:

"Willow water is an all-natural rooting hormone that's a cinch to make. Crush 12" long willow cuttings to loosen the wood fibers, then cut the mashed branches into 2" long pieces. Fill a jar with the willow pieces, then cover them with water and let the mix stand for a couple of days before using it."

It also said the spring is the best time to do it while the leaves are the light green from fresh growth!

The mix should last you weeks when stored properly.

Thanks for the recipe vfem. I particularly appreciate that they mentioned spring being the best time to do it.

What I did was a simple recipe I found on-line -- cut chopstick size twigs into 3-4" long pieces (2 cups worth), then add to one gallon of boiling water and let sit for at least overnight, maybe longer. Then refrigerate. I tried this last night and have left it to sit until tonight. We'll see.

I still get occasional reminders of those times... they call them "flashbacks!" ;)

I'm all natural now. That's why I'm chosing the willow branches rather then asprin. I don't even take it myself...

Now if only tea with honey would solve headaches and hangovers. :hu

I have found there is only one sure natural cure for a debilitating headache . . . a nap. I don't always have the space or time for it, but when I do it works like a charm. Although I have woken up and still had the headache . . . I just went back to sleep. :p

Alright, Davaroo, I tried your aspirin tip and was totally amazed!

Corn sprouts:

Everyone knows when you thin your corn you have those sprouts that come out with a small portion of roots, maybe 1/2 long at the most but usually shorter.

Sweet corn seed disappeared this year. Gone from all buying sources except through the mail. I didn't buy enough, so I decided to transplant my corn thinnings. Sometimes this works, sometimes not.

Thinned the corn, placed them in buckets with a little water, threw some aspirin in for kicks and giggles and put them all in the cellar over night.

The next morning the roots had grown 1-2 inches longer on most of the sprouts!! :th Over night!!! :ep

Sort of like those hairs on your chin that you look for every day and then one day you wake up and they are long enough to shave, having grown over night!

Hmmmmmmm.......maybe that has something to do with headaches and aspirin ingestion......... :idunno

Anyhoo....thanks, Davaroo! :frow

Hi Beekissed & Davaroo,

I too have been having great success with Aspirin. My Stevia seeds came up in 2.5days (they are reported to be slow to germinate). All of the vegetables & flowers that I have sown since you posted the info (Davaroo) I have treated with "Aspirin water". Their germination has been faster & the plants are definitely a lot stronger. I haven't been using grow-lights, only natural light (I'm talking inside here) but the plants are really sturdy & healthy -- no spindly yellowed plants for me!! I am truly amazed by the difference it's made. I have continued watering them once a week with the mixture.

Since I've been direct sowing outside I have watered all seeds with the mixture & the germination has been brilliant -- even on carrots (the bane of my life, previously). When plants get damaged (usually by my Dorking Chickens' large feet) I have propped the plant up(& kind of splinted it) then watered it with the magic mixture, & they have recovered fully.

I definitely will continue to use it. It is great to discover something new that really makes a difference (& doesn't cost a fortune). THANKS DAVAROO !!! :bouquet
