I thought I was going to stuff myself with an early T'day dinner, then go to the garden and burn all those calories. :tools Got winter veggies that are ready to be transplanted and old garden stuff to turn under.

So what happened? Thunderstorms, wind, and the temp dropped fast. Going down to 28 tonight. Brrrrrr ! I'm not in the mood for winter yet. :(

The temperature is only supposed to drop to 28F tonight.

Since it may be up to 30, today -- I have opened the chicken door to the coop. I can continue changing the hens' ice for water but it won't freeze inside the coop tonight, once I get that door closed at what will pass for sundown.

The open door allows the hens out onto their "sunporch." It won't be very sunny since there is a 100% chance of snow today. But, it is time for them to get out and get some fresh air.

. . . they are already complaining out there  about the snow that has blown onto their porch. Tuff! Either come out or stay in . . .

My warm weather plants are just now going into dormancy. Days in the low 60s and nights in the 40s which is about all the Winter we usually see in San Diego. We usually get 1 or 2 very light frosts each Winter just to keep us on our toes. My Winter garden is doing great however with more kailaan and other Chinese greens than I can eat. My Mexican neighbors are happy to get the surplus.

Well Collector, are you ready to start posting pictures . . .

or, shall I?

There certainly has not been any melting here altho' this is likely to be the day the thermometer shows a 32F. I think it is unfortunate, for purposes of comparison, that the Weather Service only has one place for hundreds of miles where they have an official snow depth where people actually live! Of course, that place is the most open, windswept and dry location anywhere hereabouts!

If 1" of precipitation (water) equals 10" of snow, then the .5" that we have had officially during the last 24 hours should mean that another 5" has fallen.

I would like Mother Nature to understand that we are still more than 3 weeks from Winter. And then, there's that "seasonal lag" thing . . .

Steve, looks alot like what I am dealing with here. Now that the temps have come back up the snow is alot heavier and harder to shovel. I think we got another 5-6" today and still snowing. Oh well I am working off all that T-Day food. Havnt checked the weather so not sure about the next 24 hrs probably more snow oh well it makes things interesting. Our garden/ storage shed unloaded on top of the coop and nearly completely buried it, I just shoveled out enough to get the door open and left the rest for insulation, at least that's the story I'm sticking to.

Just to let you know, how weird the weather is- they claim it is going to be 50 degrees on Wednesday! Keep in mind, this is upstate NY! Hoping some of that warm air blows your way!

lesa, we ussually have those temps at this time of year. This year the foul weather is just a few weeks early. I think this year we have shoveled more snow in November than I can remember before. Enjoy your warm weather while you can.

The snowiest November on record, at the nearest weather station where they measure these things!

I guess I'm getting a little old. I remember the #4 and #5 snowiest Novembers and was around during #2 . . . just not around here.

:old

Anyway!! I got my pulse monitor in the mail today!!

Shoveling snow runs my pulse rate up to my target of 100bpm, even just poopsy-doodling around - cleaning snow I pushed off the pickup. Nobody is surprised about this anyway, :/ are they? Actually, I'm going to have to be careful, just as usual, not to overdo it :p.

It occurred to me: there are 2 words no one in a southern clime has to ever use in the same sentence: "snow" & "storage."

 Steve
