WOW, those berries are amazing!! Thanks for all the great info. Question - if you tip a primocane, will that same primocane be able to bear next year? I'm guessing that it wont, since you're cutting off the bearing end. I'd like some more plants...just getting started with my little patch, but i dont want to ruin my chances of getting berries next year!

thank you everyone ....they are quite awesome this year, was figuring with all this rain was going to be dealing with mold...guess not

put up fliers down at work last week sales have been slow. today they had a company lunch so put out 2 quarts of berries, well how about that now have orders for 9 1/2 gallons.....you got to love that....
of course we have been freezing a gallon here and there for wintertime and dw will be making some jelly as well. a cobbler is on the menu for this weekend.

once the future patch starts producing going to try a u-pick and see how that goes...

bj your welcome to come and pick all you want, but you would have to weigh in and out.. if you are going to pick and eat.... :gig

nwmtg if you do not top the primocane it will run for ever, it's the primocane runners you want to tip to make more plants... will do a quickie on doing this hopefully this weekend and how to tell when the berry is at it's prime to pick.

< hate when you purchase berries at premium prices down at the grocery store and they are still tart>

Major, I've never had a homegrown blackberry. Are they very sweet? All the blackberries I've tried from the store or farmer's market have been kind of tart. I'm not crazy about tart fruit. :(

Have started to tip a few Prima canes so next year will do a trellis like yours!

I know they must be sweet and juicy. How much are you selling them for? I need some for the freezer.!!

holy cow the dw picked 11+ gallons of berries today

what you see is only a portion of them. the rest is in the fridge. sales have been way off this year,so we have now about 10 gallons in the freezer.

the dw informed me that she has contacted a local winery and as well a distillery both are very interested in the berries, she has appointments with them tomorrow and saturday. hope we can get a contract with either one of them.
so far too date we have picked over 40 gallons with another 20-30 gallons turning. if we can sell the rest our property taxes will be payed for.... :woot

the next couple days shall be interesting to see if we do expand or if we go with planting raspberries.
both are a very profitable crop, but very labor intensive.

fingers crossed........
